Was just browsing and came upon this uncanny craft.

Quite unconventional wouldn't you say...

Does anyone have an opinion on which aircraft design out there is the most radical?
klm_city_hopper
I find this aircraft very ugly!

Now that's worth 1,001 words...

What a great way to start my day.

Great find.

The oddest looking commercial plane to me is the Shorts 330. Looks like they took a box, and added wings and a tail. (Airliners.net is down, I will post pictures once it is up)

I wish I could see what aircraft your talking about Jamike, I was greeted with this message...

Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. It is a step to improve the uptime of the site with a more reliable internet connection.

LOL, there's going to be a lot of sad people out there while its down!

Anyways, the most bizarre aircraft I've ever seen would be Westland P12

The weirdest was the EverGreen 747 water bomber at JFK a few years back.
Or the Piaggio Avanti which flies over my house alot.

Many people have claimed to have seen "The Flying Dutchman "

The Flying Dutchman legend :

This is the legend of the Flying Dutchman, a ship that was doomed to sail around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa forever.
The legend of The Flying Dutchman is said to have started in 1641 when a Dutch ship sank off the coast of the Cape of Good Hope:

Captain van der Decken was pleased. The trip to the Far East had been highly successful and at last, they were on their way home to Holland. As the ship approached the tip of Africa, the captain thought that he should make a suggestion to the Dutch East India Company (his employers) to start a settlement at the Cape on the tip of Africa, thereby providing a welcome respite to ships at sea.

He was so deep in thought that he failed to notice the dark clouds looming and only when he heard the lookout scream out in terror, did he realise that they had sailed straight into a fierce storm. The captain and his crew battled for hours to get out of the storm and at one stage it looked like they would make it. Then they heard a sickening crunch - the ship had hit treacherous rocks and began to sink. As the ship plunged downwards, Captain VandeDecken knew that death was approaching. He was not ready to die and screamed out a curse: "I WILL round this Cape even if I have to keep sailing until doomsday!"

So, even today whenever a storm brews off the Cape of Good Hope, if you look into the eye of the storm, you will be able to see the ship and its captain - The Flying Dutchman. Don't look too carefully, for the old folk claim that whoever sights the ship will die a terrible death.

Many people have claimed to have seen The Flying Dutchman, including the crew of a German submarine boat during World War II and holidaymakers.

On 11 July 1881, the Royal Navy ship, the Bacchante was rounding the tip of Africa, when they were confronted with the sight of The Flying Dutchman. The midshipman, a prince who later became King George V, recorded that the lookout man and the officer of the watch had seen the Flying Dutchman and he used these words to describe the ship:

"A strange red light as of a phantom ship all aglow, in the midst of which light the mast, spars and sails of a brig 200 yards distant stood out in strong relief."

It's pity that the lookout saw the Flying Dutchman, for soon after on the same trip, he accidentally fell from a mast and died. Fortunately for the English royal family, the young midshipman survived the curse.

Nah - proof positive that given 2 chain saw motors some Frenchman will build an aircraft to use them. Actually, it's sort of "cute" but is a twin with single engine performance - lose one of them and it doesn't have enough power to climb and the reports I read have it L O U D as well. icon_confused.gif

And about the comment on the 380 - to ME just looks like a 340 on steroids - short, squat, tall tail - what's "ugly" about it?

Air Jamaica Express used the Shorts 360 a while back.

Not the most beautiful of aircrafts that one was, even in AirJ livery.

Yep. American Eagle had the Shorts 360 until the mid-90's.

That one is still at Monino (museum). The engines were mounted toward the rear and set up on the stub wings that aren't there. airliners says it's a rescure vehicle but I was told it was some anti-sub unit.

BIG, FAST (for a BOAT) and gawd-awful UUUUUgly (what you do when you want to spend "unlimited state money" on a "good idea... DA tovarich!"

Of course, not to be out done (no, I don't have a picture) - there was a "sort of" Aztec fuselage looking "flying in ground effect" watercraft in Norfolk (somewhere near the water - I saw it when I was crossing a bridge maybe 7 years ago)

Nothing bizzare about the Cessna in this pic, frightening is more like it. icon_eek.gif

Hope no one was fatally injured.

Does the fact that, strangely enough, I find this pic funny make me a bad person? icon_neutral.gif

From what I've read, this was staged for a movie.

I was out with a friend trying to setup my darn R/C Extra's engine last Friday, when a nice guy stopped by us and started to chat with us. It happens that he owns one of these, probably even at the airfield 1km from my place, haven't asked. But I'd really want to see that thing for real. Empty weight of the airplane is 75kg... Next to this he has a Bonanza, and has flown the Catalina to Duxford airshow this year... He was very friendly and interested too in our "little" thingys. Well, his Cricri's engines are about the same size as my Extra's one icon_lol.gif

I might get to see his machines once I have some free time again...

pellet gun is more like it - you don't want to pop them all at once

BTW - this was the mode of the strange balloonist in California numerous years ago - helium weather ballons and a lawn chair. Some commercial pilot got "upset" that he had a "gun" (bb-gun of course) - he made it to 20000 ft IIRC
