My mom is a F/A for american and i somtimes go from chicago to anchorage with her on her turns and recently she said they were using the longer range Ex-TWA 75's and I thought why would they use those if there not going to be equiped with the blended winglets (few are) and they are equiped with the less powerfull (possibly more fuel effecient) 36,600 PW engines. What is classified as long range? More fuel efficient engines or blended winglets?

All of the service from American from Dallas and Chicago into Anchorage is flown by the 757, with the exception of the LAX-ANC flights, which is a 738. According to Airliners.net, these are Rolls-Royce powered, original American airlines 757's.

Couldn't find any pictures of the 738's in ANC.

Hope this helps!

I don't have any idea why they would. They are about to get rid of those birds, and do they not have less range than the RR-version?

From whom have you heard this from? Just because one engine provides more thrust does not mean it is less fuel efficent. Can anyone provide me with the information on the fuel efficency of these birds? Even better, can anyone prove this rumour?

the B777 with GE-90 engines are way more powerful than any engines in the world and they are the most efficent engines in the world (this is what i've seen lately)

mom said she heard it from a fellow F/A
I wouldnt use it as a valuable source though. All my mom has heard that is the Ex TWA's were "better" for long range. Does anyone know if they are and why?
