There is none other aviation memory I treasure more than sitting in seat 1C-E on an Alitalia MD80S, and looking at the front door, and seeing daylight coming around the door, and watching the black rubber around the door rise up as we pressurize and ascend.
Sorry, a bit of a nostalgic moment!!

Man!, lucky for you MD-80's will be serving for a long time... But me, a 707, 727, 732 and DC-9 fan, I really don't think i'll get on one of them... Talk about nostalgic!

I agree that the MD80 is one of the mose beautiful airplanes out there. I have flown on American's MD80's multiple times, and I have always has a nice flight! In fact, I will be flying them this summer! I have also flown on Spirit's MD80, and it is still a great airplane, no matter the airline.
Lets hope that the MD80 sticks around for at least another 10-15 years! (maybe more)

haha don't worry you will be able to still fly them for a couple more years, exept the 707. DC-9's, NWA and Aeropostal. the 732, Delta Airlines. B727, Champ Air and Transmeridian or maybe a charter. i wish you good luck with the 707's maybe you could fly on a charter or go over to our airport SDQ and go to the graveyard where our Dominican 707-399 is.

Ive flown many times on the md80 and no other airliner can match the unique feel of that airplane on its powerfull take-offs and smooth landings

I remember Muse Airlines had a policy of gaining maximum altitude in minimum time (or similar) that led to all their takeoffs in the DC-9 and variants being absolutely spectacular displays of climb performance. I think they had decided that the sooner they got to altitude the sooner they could throttle back and save engine wear. But they did climb baby, and I mean STEEP.

i had 2 MD-80 flights on my vacation both on American Airlines..
it was great... i slept the whole flight!

But MD80s aren't considered very safe compared to other aircraft, aren't they? But I think I'm gonna fly on one on Sunday, and then I'll tell how it was. I think turbo-props are cooler. I flew on one ( Royal Jordanian Airlines Bombardier Q400) for the 1st time a week ago and I got so excited, because of the prop blades, that I took pics:

The MD-80 is just as safe as any airplane out there. Remember, the more there are of one airplane type in operation around the world, the greater the chances are that something bad is going to happen to one of them.

Or... I could fly across the word, to Iran, in fly one of Saha's 707... Ahhh if i were rich....

lol you dont have to be rich to do that im not rich but i fly over the world i flew on saha's 707 go to my album it will be there, if not then tell me ill photobucket.

i sorry, but TMA is long gone since last January. although i have never been on an MD-80, i want the last seat with a tape recorder just for the engines, *sigh* oh how i love that sound.

Sad to hear that TMA went out of service, well apapele182 i think you are going to have a little bit of bad luck with the 727 too.

i had the pleasure of flyin on TMA's 727 and b4 i did, i wasnt so fond of them, but after that flight from SYR to LAS i loved that plane. i was rite on the leading edge of the wing, ill try to get pix up soon. ya gotta love dat 727!
