the worst flight that ive ever been on was cathay pacific from sfo-vietnam via hongkong. i took a trip to vietnam during last summer and my family decided to chose another airline to see if they are anybetter then our usual carrier SIA. we boarded an a340-600 which was suppose to be very exiting for me but it wasnt. The flight# was CX873. once we step through the door the cabin crew looked like if someone had died in their family not one smile was given to the passengers. Once onboard half of the ptvs onboard did not work including mine so i was very piss. so i sat on a 13 hour flight with no entertainment. the food was horrible. they served us i think cury chicken, rice, fruit and a small piece of cake. the chicken had no taste and the rice was cold. The arrival to hong kong was so scary! there was a storm in hong kong and we were told that the landing was going to be smooth because of the "Modern" aircraft. we were hitting server turbalance, nearly thrown around in the air. the wings were almost flapping like birds. if you could imagine a huge a340-600 wing flapping that would be very scary. i think 6 over head bins open and only miner things fell causing no injuries so that was good. the landing was so rough. it felt like a stall in stead of a landing. we slamed into the grown and was pushed foward and backward in our seats. once we arrived to the gate the cabin crew would not open the door because there was no one at the jetway. they turned of the aircondition so the whole cabin smeled very musty. once we got off the plane not even a word goodbye or sorry aout the rough landing from the cabin crew. for all i know i am never flying cx again in my life.

Wow, that is pretty bad, than again you walked away living and breathing sounds like it was an OUTSTANDING landing, especially if it was at Hong Kong. The land of the WORST crosswind landings ever!

i was supposed to fly DSM-ORD-PWM by way of AA but the lady who booked it booked the group i was w/to go DSM-DFW-ORD-PWM. i mean 2 hours down and 2 hours back, when we could just go 1 hr. across! then its 3 hours to pwm on a CRJ, and when we got to the airport finally it was 8:50 P.M. and we were the only a/c there besides a U.S. 737. Oh, and did i mention, we began our jorney @ 8:00 A.M.!

Worst? I think none. But I don't know why, but I can't fell asleep on a plane, and being 30 hours without a sleep and doing "transbordos" (how do you say when you have to get off a plane and then get on another to reach your final destination??) is quite annoying.

As far as service goes, the worst flight of my life was with United from Washington DC to London Heathrow. Cargo door failed to close, so we were off loaded. Few hours delay. Cabin crew seemed like they were the “B” crew. VERY rude to economy passengers. It got so ridiculous that it was almost like “Surprise, you’re on candid camera!” The food was horrible. The cold breakfast came out of a box and was served at 10 pm GMT... Go figure! Entertainment on United, boring as usual. All around bad flight.
A bad flight as far as technical faults goes, Singapore to London with Singapore Airlines registration 9V-SPN. When turning on the ground everybody in the rear cabin heard and felt a rather worrying vibrating/banging/cracking sound from beneath our feet. By the look on our faces, you cool tell we were worried, the flight attendants seems concerned but decided to do nothing....... The next concern came from the sound of
one of the engines repeatedly being shutdown and started again before we took off. With that and the cracking sound, I was scared! Then, we took off! Oh well, it’s too late now, we’re all gonna die!

The flight was SO bumpy with a few small but sudden loses in altitude, which were rather uncomfortable. When we landed at Heathrow, we notice what looked like a small fire engine waiting to follow us. The engines were shut down straight away and we were towed to the gate and again we heard the banging sound that had worried us so much back in Singapore. The whole time, the flight deck told us
nothing. But we lived, YAY

BA are ok most of the time - although I find their leather seats they have in economy on a lot of the shorthaul and med haul fleet are highly uncomfortable - prefer standard fabric seats anyday!
for worst flight - cant think of one airline wise - but monarch flight 1589 from agp to lgw was very bad due to weather... but not the airlines fault

All the flights I've been on had good service. My worst flight was about 3 years ago, a flight from Amsterdam to London. I don't know what that pilot was thinking, if he was thinking at all. The takeoff was a bit crazy, but the actual flight was good until it came time for landing. Both of the pilots must have been sleeping or something, because we were at a pretty high altitude for a long time, and then all of a sudden we descended verry abruptely. Must have been about 20-25 degree descent. I remember everyone on the plane had the air sickness bags by their mouth and everyone was screaming. We made it, but I hope those guys got fired

BA - because the service is worse than appaling, you have a good chance of being late (especially on LGW flights). And there's other reasons that I shant go into.
On the other hand, Emirates is a different story. Enough said.

It may not have been the pilots' fault. Many times ATC will hold an aircraft high due to crossing traffic, etc. It can be very frustrating for pilots. Now could they have done a better job in the transition from level flight to descent? You may have a case here.

Well let see...
I've had a few bad experiences...
Flying from France to Ecuador, I took BA from London (can't remember if it was Heathrow or Gatwick) to JFK in my second leg of the day. Obviously the flight was 1.5 hrs delayed and we were never able to catch up. Needless to say, I lost my connection to Miami and Quito-Ecuador. BA gave me the endorsement for a flight with Ecuatoriana that same night a midnight (I had to stay about 10hours without doing anything).
The Ecuatoriana flight which was supposed to leave at midnight was rescheduled for 6:30am  . The supervisor at JFK for Ecuatoriana gave $5 food vouchers only for those who asked for them but did not give us accomodations at a nearby hotel/motel, not even for this 75 year old lady who I felt bad for (that really upset me more than anything). In the meantime, I had heard that their fleet had been sabotaged in Ecuador and that the plane that was coming to pick us up was the only one flying. I said "No way!". I waited for a few more hours to see if BA could give me a flight with AA instead of Ecuatoriana but all their flights were full <_< which meant that I had only one choice... to take Ecuatoriana again the very next day. I started feeling like Tom Hanks in The Terminal... And would you believe that during that 24hr period, the Ecuatoriana never caught up with its delay??? Everyone in the flight was so mad that we simply told them that we did not want to watch any movie and that we wanted all the windows shut until we got to Ecuador. They complied...
Anyway, I had another bad experience with UTA before. but I don't want to live that again by telling you about it...
Another thing... I think that the service that American Airlines provides is one of the worst...

Worst experience was flying emirates from manchester to dubai.
Not the airlines fault but it was pretty scarey.
Having crossed some mountains in Turkey we hit the Med sea. The plane began to bounce all over the place and would just drop every now and then. The plane was being thrown all over the place so the attendants left dinner and RAN to their seats !! Several bins opened and bags came out, then a trolley that had been left rolled past me. After 5 minutes it calmed down and the captain told us it had been the worst he had ever experienced !
Took several cans of Fosters to calm me down !!

really feel sad to hear a guy refuse to fly with Cathy Pacific again, because Cathy Pacific is base in Hong Kong, my home town....
my worst flight was flown from Hong Kong HKG to Brisbane BNE by Qantas in Feb2003.
The flight was a Boeing 737, no idea why use a 737 for a nearly 9 hours flight, it seems too small.
The food just suck.......
The mojor problem is that the one sitting beside me, she is a pretty young lady, however, she drunk after the first meal.....
she always try to talk and play with me, and the flight was full, i couldn't change another seat.....at the end, i didn't sleep during the 9 hours flight, i really want to cry....

One time we were flying from London Gatwick to somewhere in Europe. I think this was with Monarch but I'm not certain. Anyway, we all got onboard, waited for a while, and then the Captain tells us we've missed our takeoff slot. Instead of being allowed to go back to the lounge, we had to sit on the plane for 2 hours waiting for another slot, and by then the plane needed more fuel. I think that could have been handled better.
My worst flight, however, was on a Virgin A320. The aircraft we were expecting hadn't turned up so we were all crammed into this one, and the last row in economy was half the size of the other rows, so that's probably less than 10 inches pitch. Extremely uncomfortable flight, and Virgin have since stopped flying small aircraft. Perhaps due to lawsuits?

I am a paranoid person...and living near NY makes it much harder. Every flight I bawl and get all worked up........

One flight, I seriously thought we were all gonna die. It was on a CO 757-300 from Ft. Lauderdale to Newark......scared the crap outa me.
When I entered the aircraft, I didn't smell the usual....vomit with recycled air smell, instead I smell this nasty formaldahide smell. That freaked me out just a little. Then, upon takeoff....we all smell something burning......thats when the tears came.....and to top it off, the pilot puts the engines to about 40% at a 20 degree angle about. I just wanted out. The whole flight I refused to get out of my seat. I didn't play my videogames or listen to my CD player, I just kept looking out the window.
Of course, this wasn't the airlines fault....I'm just a baby.

Well i have had two bad expireces in my 14 years of flying one was on DFW ORD on american airlines due to bad weather in dallas we were delayed for 3 hours and didnt take off until like 2:00am and arrived like at 4:30am!
the worst one was on United 1263 DFW ORD on approach our pilots i guess were ignoring ATC for a few mintues on apporach because ATC asked us due to traffic to climb to FL 060 at this time ATC was calm well about 30 seconds after that ATC got on the horn and asked us to expidite our climb to FL 060 and turn heading 060 finally the pilots i guess woke up and said "roger united 1263 climbing FL 060 turning heading 060" and at that time i heard the traffic warning go off if that wasnt enough that same plane infront of us got stuck on the runway and then we switched to another runway but then that just wasnt enough they lost my bag! and i had to wear my same cloths for a week! yuck but to be honest i look back on it and it was kinda of fun testing those airbus engines to FL 030 to 060 in a matter of seconds!!!

I'd say a flight to Japan from Hawaii when I was about ten years old. (About 1963) We had to land at Wake Island and were stuck there for a day or so (engine trouble on a four-propeller plane)--and we kids couldn't go to the beach or explore the island because of rusty dangerous WWII wreckage strewn everywhere and I think even "unexploded ordinance". We hyper little kids were stuck in their crummy sweaty little airfield terminal the whole time we were there.

hey i'm new!! :D I live is paris, france but i'm in the US right now... I love this web-site and I'm obsessed with airplanes...(as we all are on this web site right?)... I have 4 videos on the site but they're really bad so don't bother (there under Nicolas Carhart)... Here is my worst flight: it was about 4 or 5 years ago I don't really remember, we were supposed to take an 6PM alitalia flight from Paris CDG to Roma Fiumicino (that's about an 1h45 min. flight). So we get there like 3 hours early kuz my dad is paranoyed about "missing the plane"... after all the chekin and security stuff, we get to the planned gate in the "brand new aerogare" (terminal) I think it was 2F... when comes time to board, the flight attendant says over the speaker that the plane is delayed two hours because "a varig airline airplane has had technical issues upon landing, once again it wasn't our fault, we are not the one's blocking the runway"... anyhow, we were planing on having dinner on the plane, but that wasn't about to happen, and the brand new terminal we were in was so brand new, that the restaurants hadn't opened yet in it... so we waited for 2 FREEKIN HOURS and what did they say after that? we're sorry, the problem that we DID NOT CAUSE is worst than we thought it was, we will have to wait another 4 hours before takeoff. I couldn't believe it!!! I was SOOO hungry!!! but guess what, that is not it! after 4 hour of my stomach gurgling they said sorry 2 more hours of waiting... everyone was sooo pissed and the airport guys were jerks... so we spent 8 fregin hours in the stupid aerogare and it was past 2 AM and I hadn't had dinner I thought I would die... we get in the plane (a small airbus) and we push off, I thought that was it like "a few more minutes and were up in the air" but NO... after about 30 seconds of taxing the plane stops... and it was stoped for about 5 minutes when the pilot comes on and says, that there is some kind of problem with the fuel tank, probably nothing, but that he wanted an inspection crew to take a look at it before we took off... so we went back to the gate and the pilot specifically said "don't put your seat belts on" for some reason that I don't understand (does anyone know why????)... well, getting an inspection crew at 2 AM isn't quite easy so we didn't take off until 3:30... and we got to rome around
5:30... that definitely was my worst flight experience... ok... well I'm glad to be part of this site now!!!

Worst flight ever was a short hop, out of Norfolk intern. to CHapel Hill,S.C. (outside of raleigh), and infortunately back as well.
It was a VFR 135 charter, of some drunken unruly idiot, who had to pee on both legs (C-172, you can picture the procedure in play), and just could not shut is trap asking: are we there yet?
In Chapel Hill, I awaited his return from his"meeting" for 7 hours at night outside in temperatures that where close to 0 celsius, but the best is that the company I was flying for lost revenue on this charter because apparently is credit card would not cover the time overage that he deliberately made use of....
DId I mentioned that I flew him back and he had a broken nose...don't ask any questions, because I didn't.

I was flying to Oslo for a holiday and on the way home we hit an air pocket and we went in about a 90 degree angle it was terrable, everything on the tray tables went all over the plane. And to make it worse is that none of the flight atendants spoke english they only spoke dutch and german I doesn't make sense a flight from JFK you would think that they would have English speaking Flight attendants.

To me this seems quite strange. You ar saying that you fly md11 for fedex, and as a pilot you would probably know that there is no such thing as air pockets and the plane would never get at pitch or a bank angle of 90 degrees, and if it did you probably would not think about the stuff on your tray table..

RJB,
I wish it was that easy!!!!
I also should not have departed if I just even could smell a trace of alcohol in his breath, but the world of air taxi charters is one that is a little more complex then opening a book and saying that what we do is not legal or unsafe...I can't believe that I am saying that but it is unfortunately very true.
If I had to wait for the passengers to sober up before taking off, I would probaly still be waiting somewhere for a few years.
And the step 1 through four that you mentioned I do abide by them, but you have the dilemna : the client is always right.
