Fluffdoc is right on this one. Just because the engine didn't fall off the wing and drop to the runway doesn't mean there wasn't something wrong. It could have been failure to produce full power. It might have been a warning light that came on a few seconds into takeoff. Or one of the gauges might have produced a faulty reading, real or fake. Impossible to tell just from looking. Russian planes just don't have the same reliability as western-built planes, so anything is possible. But this isn't an unheard-of scenario in western-built airplanes as well. I'm just glad they caught the problem while they still had adequate runway in front of them. It could have been worse.
Yes, I agree also. Or the plane could of had an engine burnout. You never know!
I agree completely. In June 2001 I was on a CRJ, and on the take off roll, the captain cut the power and hit the brakes. It pretty much felt like slowing down after touch down. His explination was that the computer said there was something wrong. They reset it, taxied back to the end of the runway, then took off. About a 10 min delay.
