Sorry to say this, all you had to do was Read the Papers and Watch the news for the reasons, the Main Reason was the Running costs of Concorde :D and the Maintance costs, which dont quote me on, BA`s next Maintance costs for Concorde to keep her flying was going to be inexcesse of 45 millon Pounds and with the down turn in passenger travel, it had to come to a sorry end at the time. Plus look at todays fuel prices, would you think in would be in the interest to keep her flying, with the amount of fuel she brunt! Any way :D CONCORDE :D lives in every ones heart and the hope is to see her fly again one day.

LONG LIVE :D CONCORDE :D THE QUEEN OF THE SKIES

Discontinued from service or discontinued for production?

It was discontinued from production because:
A) Very expensive
B) Doesn't make that much $$ in service, compared to 747 etc
C) Airlines were questionable on buying it, and then the noise regulations were passed that relegated concorde's supersonic speed to only over water and that was the kicker for the airlines and they decided to opt for other, larger a/c for the long hauls. Lots of pax vs. speed, and cramming pax in won the battle

I did hear once that British Airways thought it was a terrorist target so grounded it, talk about being a scaredy cat but in a way i may see what they mean.

If you watch too much TV in life, you get too scared to do anything. live life to the full and as safe as you can icon_wink.gif

FF, news to me that BA grounded Concorde, due to it being a Terrorist Target, i think every one knows that all A/C are Terrorist Targets and not just Concorde! So lets stop spamming topic`s and write sensible things about A/C please.

Sorry? I think you are talking rubbish. Flying Fox has the freedom to say whatever he likes, within reason of course, and he is most definitely not spamming. He is stating his answer to a perfectly reasonable question and you telling him that he is spamming and being unsensible doesn't go down too well. You say that every single a/c is a terrorist target, well that's... interesting? No one cares if it is news to you, no one's going to consult you and request your permission when they want to say something.
Chill out man, and dont go firing your jets at someone who's been here for a long time with well over a 1000 posts. I'm sure you weren't trying to be ignorant or obnoxious or anything but please think about how some one else will read your post.

I have bought the DVD of Concorde and it is really brilliant.. duration.. 300 minutes..and it was made in 1996... and has all the smallest details right from the pre flight check around the outside to an actual flight from Heathrow to JFK.. with everything explained by the Captain.. David Rowland..
It is a fascinating DVD and if anyone wants to buy it i can supply all the details to them...
I would just have loved to have flown in her.. she looks so classy..like nothing else a true queen of the skies..and well ahead of her time since she was first in commercial service as long ago as 1976..
I wish i could have flown in her but could not afford the fare and as Boeing says it was very expensive to keep her in service.. so she was mothballed and is now on view at various air museums throughout the country..the nearest one to me being at East Fortune...

Also there we not many airports in the US that the concord was allowed to fly into either because of the runways sizes or Noise Abatement procedures.

The Concorde was stopped due to the rise of prices and after the concorde accident in Paris less people were using the Concorde. icon_neutral.gif

The Concorde was stopped because of the hardness of the ground where it hit. Had it been softer ground, maybe it would have not stopped so fast.

PS...FlyingFox...is that you in your avitar?

Probably a terror threat, however, it was more of a MX cost.

And what does watching too much TV have to do with the Concorde being grounded? icon_rolleyes.gif
