A new Terminal is planned for London Heathrow Airport after Terminal 5 is completed.

Terminal 2 and the Queens Building will be demolished to make space for a brand new terminal complex which will equal Terminal 5's features and also make the Central Area more modern to pax and Airlines operating from there icon_wink.gif

Though this means the now dormant spectators facilities gone for ever (i doubt it would ever re open sadly), it will be a good face lift for Heathrow icon_smile.gif

Theres a link and photos on www.baa.co.uk/heathrow Look up the news section and you will get photos of the planned construction, estimated to be around £1.5 Billion icon_eek.gif but cool 8)

Airliners Net magazine has more details on it aswell, it will be very good for Heathrow as many visitors think the existing Terminals look very old fashioned, which is why BAA is looking on how to change this :D

Is the new terminal being built to accommodate the A380 or is it being built to handle more traffic?

I read somewhere that work was due to start in 2009 I think. Maybe it is something to do with the olympics in London in 2012.

Yes, Heathrow East is going to be (hopefully) ready for the London 2012 Olympic Games and maybe built to except Virgin Atlantics A380 aircraft aswell as they will move to the new terminal when it is completed 8)

Heathrow would also like to have another runway and additional terminal after that icon_eek.gif wow go for it LHR! icon_wink.gif Imagine that, LHR growing to the size of Amsterdam or Chicago O'Hare, think of the jobs it will create and the amount of additional air traffic 8)

They really should expand Heathrow rather than build a new airport because London is such a popular big city for travellers and it would be very beneficial.

The NIMBYs can move to rural areas of the sussex countryside away from the planes icon_wink.gif they will like it there icon_smile.gif
