hey,

i'm making a flight soon from OEJN-HECA (egypt air) and i'm kinda excited, but i would really appreciate it if i travel in the jumpseat, but i don't know how to request to sit there or anything, so can anyone help me or if someone was to ask one of you pilots out there, what are the chances u'd let them sit in the cockpit?

I would expect the chances are slim to none. Obviously in the past few years security has gotten very tight. All you can do would be to ask the Captain when you get on the flight. I read a post about someone who got on a Middle Eastern carrier flight deck, so they got lucky. However, don't count on it. The odds are not good.

thanks for ur help SF3AVIATRIX, i guess ur right, but i'm only 14 (but i look 17 <_< ) guess its useful most of the time but it has its ups and downs..

SF3aviatrix is unfortunately right. Things have changed quite a bit. Pre Sep.11 we occassionally let people into the cockpit during flight.The guests' spectrum were from young flight enthusiasts to the fearfull granny.Age nowadays does matter (or the age you look).If you're a little kid or a very old person your chances do increase. Regardless, you should give it a try.Try not to board last minute, since it gets more hectic towards departure time. Practice what you want to say. Be polite and if you get rejected (which could very well happen ) .....be polite.You never know...

thanks a lot for ur advice trijetflyermd11, and bout the 9/11 ppl, if they weren't dead already id happily kill them for affecting anyone with aviation dreams..

I have to say that any US flagship or US domestic airline will give you a cold shoulder, if they don't actually turn the flight manifest with your name circled in red ink to the ground agents upon arrival. A very sad demeanor indeed, (I will not accept comments on this sentence, my words are measured)
However, that is not the case on the rest of the world airlines, if you put a good face on, ask humbly, your chances are actually not that bad. Ask a flight attendant during your trip if the captain would let you in, they most certainly will inquire, keep in mind that you want to ask early in the flight, and that it will be worload permitting.
i.e: don't ask when the descent has started and it is obvious you have a catIII hurricane blowing outside!!!

I traveled today and i asked if i could see the cockpit after the flight. The pilots were so good they let me in and showed me cockpit. But they said there is no chance of traveling jumpseat anymore. They said it was a real shame because they wold of let me!
