Good job!
They were scheduled for takeoff earlier in the morning so I didn't try and look out of my window... but could have actually seen it!

Yes indeed Kil. That's very well done by Bertrand Piccard.
Hats off to him and his team! icon_thumright.gif

Excellent video Kilrah .Great quality of pictures.
It was a nice surprise to meet you on the chat/website of the SI.
I'm following this unique solar bird as from his first international trip from Payern to Brussels ,later Paris and finally back home to Payern,Switserland .
Couldn't resist to go at Brussels airport (Zaventem) and make a little contribution of the arrival on 13 may 2011.

Nice, that evening ambience must have been beeautiful! I like the lights!

Looks like his approach was quite steep at times, yet flight stays just as slow.

Now on to the next steps! Bertrand Piccard took the controls for the first time on Tuesday, and designers are working on the 2nd aircraft!

designers are working on the 2nd aircraft!

The second Solar Impulse ,HB-SIB , will be build with a pressurized cockpit and advanced avionics to allow for transcontinental and trans-oceanic flights.
The cockpit will include cabin pressurization, supplemental oxygen and various environmental support to the pilot to allow a cruise altitude of 12,000 metres (39,000 ft).
The flight would circle the world in the northern hemisphere near the equator.
A two-seater is envisaged depending of the improved battery efficiency to reduce the weight .
When ?...........Suchs as the first international flight to Brussels, let guess heu..... 13 may 2013 ...............???
