My friend,captain at this flight,should depart Schiphol Airport at 10.40hrs. At 10AM a heavy snowstorm started at the Airport. And it would'nt stop. After the de-icing Schiphol was closed. All the enigines were shut down.
Later on the KLM Boeing 747-400 was de-iced again. And the captain taxied carefully from the de-icing apron to runway 27.
By arriving the runway I've got a sign with the landinglights.
After the takeoff-call from the tower he gave a readback with at the end a marvellous greeting to me. It gave me teardrops in the eyes. A fantastic end of standing the whole day in the snow,waiting for his takeoff to IAH "George Bush".
