The Berlin Air Show on the 8 june began with a bang when Emirates Airlines announced a record order of 32 A380 airplanes.
Emirates is operating 10 A380s for more than one year .
The order takes to 90 the number ordered by Emirates.

Wow, that is very good news for Airbus! Especially because it shows that customers are fully satisfied with their product. 32 further A380s sure is a giant order. Makes me wonder what they are planning on. I mean its great news but 90 A380s will need to be filled with pax... wow

Now I do regret not have gone to the ILA, although the only interesting plane for me would have been the A400M.

Jetman is there too! icon_wink.gif

Aargh, and there comes another reason... Is he actually doing a flight display with his wing or just static? Would have been neat to see him fly around. I'd love to see a human low pass flyby icon_lol.gif

Just had a chat with an instructor of ours who just returned from the ILA. The Emirates A380 was open for the general public this week. Neat to see the pictures of the interior and if hungry they even served meals.

Take a look at the air traffic around the world during 24 hours.

Would'nt it be easier, more safely and cheaper to fill airspace with 90 or more A380s instead of 180 or more A350 or B787 ?

Maybe it's a must to fly the A380, to accommodate the billions of passengers that will travel by air in 2020. Just a thought.

And....Emirates is growing fast , very fast................ icon_eek.gif

Just static. And the low flybys should be possible soon, I'm leaving tomorrow to france with him to do tests and measurements on a new parachute with pyrotechnic opening that's being developed for him now to allow for it and break that 1000m limit he has now... icon_smile.gif

Don't get me wrong galaxy, I do believe in Airbus concerning their prediction of the future need in A380 sized aircraft. It will be a success. I'm simply astonished of the sheer mass of A380s that Emirates ordered. Ok, they are planning to boost their countries economy with turism. But is the need for that many there yet? Or will they flood the market with cheap tickets?
Just as an example: Lufthansa has a Pax fleet of around 270 A/C, 30 of which are 747-400, 24 A340-600 and 26 A340-300 as well as 15 A330-300. Just to mention those with +200 seats... Thats a total of 95 big aircraft, but all smaller than 500pax. Of course they'll also have more than one A380 in their fleet compared to now but 90 is a giant number.

That sounds interesting. Now lets take this further... Couldn't he even try landing it? I mean of what kind of a glide ratio are we speaking here? "1:brick" or better? Of course it would be risky but with a skateboard on his belly and an sufficient angle he could make it on the runway...
Ahh, never mind I should continue studying... trying to get distracted again...

Indeed it is,and as I said,Emirates airlines is growing very fast.
Emirates’ strategy is to become a world leading carrier and to establish Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel . Emirates now operates ten A380 serving eight international destinations including London Heathrow, Toronto, Paris, Jeddah, Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney and Auckland. The airline expects the list of destinations to increase as more and more airports around the world are A380 ready.
With the start of the new Winter schedule , Emirates will send the A380 daily to New York .

"1:brick" is pretty much correct, glide ratio would be about 1:3,and most importantly stall speed about 150km/h... sounds a tad scary to approach the ground at that speed with nothing around you... not to mention that with the required AoA his knees would hit the ground first...
ChillSpiller
Ok that "fallratio" indeed is bad. I think the spaceshuttls glideratio is about the same. 150Km/h is nothing - what a scardycat icon_wink.gif . That was just some crank idea I came up with. Would be fun to watch though.
