This has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while, with an experience I had aproximately 9 months ago.... and I was almost sure I was right at the time, to the point where when I got on the ground I created holy hell shouting off things like and people wonder why we have accidents at non-towered airports...
Now we all make mistakes and once I got on the ground this arrogant person turns around and told me, I was wrong when I could sware I wasn't, anyway the point being was I right or wrong, because I dont want to get it wrong again if I was.
Airport KAPV. Apple Valley, California.
I was approaching inbound, winds Calm, I looked on the section chart and it states RP36 (intereprated Right Pattern Traffic runway 36) got it......
so I figure winds are calm, I'm landing runway 36, I'll enter on the right 45 degreen angle to the right down wind, as I turn from the right 45' to the right downwind, some idiot flies the left downwind to the same runway going the opposite way for runway 18.
So I state on the radio, C12345 Type C182, with winds being calm, I'm flying right traffic for runway 36 as published...
anyway this idiot almosts hits us head on, going around 200Kts and lands on runway 18 without making 1 radio call.... okay we know he doesn't have to but.... give me a break???
anyway I state the radio, Im landing 36 your landing 18?...... I hear nothing....
when I finally landing after extending the 'right down wind' for this person.... I land, get out the plane... and as I was going to the mechanic anyway... I explained him the story!!
he told me, it's always Left traffic to the runway unless winds state otherwise, I had a brain fart at this point and thought uuuuhhhh......
Now knowing that I understand all traffic patterns are to the left because most flying by PIC is done sitting in the left seat it's easier and safer to see when turning in the traffic pattern...
but I read on the sectional chart RP36 so I figured in this case the primary way to land at this airport with calm winds was land runway 36 using right traffic, not left traffic for one eight, because it's left traffic..
anyway can someone shed some light on it
much appreciated, even flight instructors definately need help too :D
