In the UK? Then buy Flight International Magazine. Or Pilot Magazine.
In the US? Then buy Flying Magazine.
In Italy? Then buy Volare magazine.
Then
Find out where your local flying club is and hang around like an out of work actor.
People will take you up for free jollies, sooner or later, if you are lucky.
You will be in the right flying club if they don`t mind you being there.
Then ask your questions on "how do I become a pilot" and read and find out and hassle all in aviation.
This forum is good for information, in fact it is a goldmine of experience and knowledge - ask here, it works. (99% of the people here are not sick).
Contact a major airline near you. And, get to see someone in the airline, again and again and again, (not the same person or the same airline, obviously)
The majors (airlines) have Cadet schemes, the military want pilots (a few) but they want you to be an officer as well, if you are not keen on the latter, you won`t get in.
Try all the three services: army, navy, air-force. Failing all the cadetships going and the forces then your option is to find some money and get yourself a PPL.
Then when you have got your PPL, you will have gained enough knowledge and momentum to be able to steer your own career.
Take my advice, if you want, but go to the States and do the PPL/CPL/IR/ME and take it from there kid. If I had my life over I would have gone to the States to train, which was my intention but I let some rip off merchant convince me otherwise. An excellent place is www.allATPs.com - but it is not about money, it is about you applying yourself to the course - just like in life, you will see which schools are going to rip you off and which one`s are THERE for YOU, they are kind of obvious. Do not hesitate to leave the school if you feel they do not have your interests at heart. You are not looking for smiles, glitter, or people taking the pss out of you , you are looking for depth, of knowledge, or caring, of taste, of trust.
THEY must have YOUR final objective in mind - to get your licence, or just to go Solo, or just to fly, whatever.
There are posh schools who will rip you off and scruffy ones who will not and posh schools who will see you right and scruffy ones who will rip you off, it is not about money, it is about you and your perception of the school. Now, go find a chummy little flying club and get your PPL. Then you can think about all the other commercial stuff later. O.K.
If you are rich, then it helps, but you still have to apply yourself. If you are poor and if you are determined to become a pilot then you have to get clever and try to borrow the money from a bank. Good luck.

"In the US? Then buy Flying Magazine."Flying really doesn't have much to offer the aspiring pilot in my opinion. For someone interested in starting flight training the 'aviation bible' to subscribe to is
Flight Training Magazine.
IMO, Flying and the similar Plane & Pilot magazine are really targeted towards those who already have a license and are aircraft owners or looking to buy. While airliners is pretty to look at for enthusiasts, it offers a student pilot nothing of value.
Flight Training is the best periodical for the student pilot hands down! A free 6 month trial is also available for new student subscribers.

Go to ANY college and get a degree in ANY subject. You don't need an Av degree to become a pilot. In fact, it's quite useless when you are furloughed, which may happen during your career....Been there, done that!

So have I....
They say you're not a pilot until you have....
1. Been Furloughed
2. On Strike
3. Fired (for no disiplinary reasons)

Yea, you definately need a backup. If you're planning on being a pilot, I wouldn't major in flying. Because if you get fired....which you will as almost every pilot is at some point....you're screwed

lol vapour
Yes you can get them from WH Smiths! and they cost around £3 - £4.
For jobs, flight international is easily the one to buy. Otherwise, pilot, flyer etc will do for general interest!
Hope this helps
