I got a question to who corresponds.

Why the Top Aviation Videos system works descending from the highest FL350 rating no matter the day which the video was added, instead of using visitors views and managing correctly the day of addition?

OK, I know it says "Top Aviation Videos", and that's the reason why it was changed from "Most Popular Videos", but how I said it before, what a rater may think it's not worth, a visitor may find it interesting.

A top aviation video, of course, needs to be a high-quality and all that, but I think that this particular item should be managed by visitor views, instead the way it is being managed right now. After all, "the costumer is always right", in this case the viewers. And maybe if you (the person in charge of this) like, maybe we can create another item that says for example "Raters' Populars" or something like that.

I love this site, and quite honestly, it has become a part of me, spotting is more to me than just a hobby, it's a life, my lifestyle.

However...since the higher ratings are given to the guys with super cameras (most of the time), it doesn't matter anymore if I have made a video that has costed me a few eyebrow hairs, because if my video has 1000000 views and 3.7 as FL350 rating, and then one week after that, a video with 5000 views but 4.2 FL350 rating is higher above my video in "Top aviation videos", see what I am trying to explain? It's almost like visitor views and/or votes (public approval) does not count to make a "Top Aviation Video", because that system is runned by the FL350 raters. Quite dissapointing actually...I'm not Super Simon Lowe and I don't have his super Canon camera. (No offense, I love your work! icon_thumright.gif )

I'm not trying to make a living chaos out of this, but (as always) trying to contribute to make this site better than what already is.

I would like to hear both FL350 people and public viewers' opinions, maybe we can do something about this? icon_idea.gif

I don't agree. A good video is one that contains "interesting" subject matter from an "interesting" view point. For example, restricting yourself to filming lumps of heavy metal taxying, taking off and landing from the spotters enclosure will not give you unique and interesting content (unless you are very lucky). However, once the content is sorted out, good editing of high quality raw footage will give you an excellent video. I'll give you that this a bit "chicken and egg", but I'd suggest that the people who have the swishest videos or either very lucky (because something happened when they were out for an hour) or that they need to get a life. Given the choice between content or presentation, I'd go for content. And I hold to this with most aspects of life.

I agree with you here PM, however a video with some nice content, usually has some good amount of views to go with it, that is good sign that it is nice video with some nice content. However, if one video that has more FL350 rating comes in with 20% of the views of the first video, it immediately puts it above the first video, no matter day of addition (which translates into views) and the views. So, in my opinion it is a bit discouraging because as I said, not everyone in here has or can afford a high-end camera, so we have to work our butts off to get a video with some nice amount of views (getting the video to look interesting, as you are saying), that is for good content, but if a video with 3 airplanes taking off has more FL350 rating than a compilation of videos welded into one (like the one I did), it'll be placed immediatly above the "compilation video". Somehow, I can't stop thinking in the Soviet Union icon_lol.gif , because the "Top Aviation Videos" feature is basically run by the raters...Don't think it is the right way, actually.

I hate to have to point this out, but suggesting something is one thing, but calling the people running this website communists probably isn't the best way to get them to listen to you.

You know, this free website that streams terabytes of data to (according to the information page) 700,000 people a month..

The keyword here being free.

You wouldn't walk into a soup kitchen and say "I think your soup is arranged wrong" and then when it is politely explained to you why it is arranged that way call the owner a communist would you?

I urge you to reconsider or rephrase your statement.

Why do you keep rambling on about 'High end' cameras? I can take a $500 camera and make a better video than a beginner with a $6000 camera. It's not what you have it's how you use it. Learn about how to frame a shot. how to compose a shot. think about where the shot starts and finishes, how to pan, how to zoom if you have to, think about keeping the camera steady and learning a few manual controls if you have them. Think about the audio and then learn how to edit. You'll find both the raters and the public will love your work all the more especially when you actually film something interesting: )

I'd also suggest that the Raters have no idea what camera was used to film the video - they're just given a video - no name no location no nothing - and asked to rate it and ten of their scores are then used for the average score - you're not at the whim of any one rater as you seem to imagine.

AND, in addition, not only is this NOT a communist site, it is a privately owned site where the owner has all the rights to do it his way no matter who likes or dislikes it.

Don't like the way we run the ranch, get off the property. As an example only...

Well...I guess we just keep it the way it is rofl.gif

Nah just kidding, reconsidering the point of view...I apologize for the communist thing. It wasn't supposed to make such a mess, but again, I apologize for that, it wasn't the best way to express things.

I get all of your opinions, and I guess I better work my butt off a bit more icon_lol.gif

And, again, it's not that I don't like this site, I wouldn't be making all this mess if it was the other way around.

Thank you for your opinions, and again, I apologize for the bad comments.

Oh! and a happy new year for all of you! Alcooliques11.gif

The more I learn about the Airbuser, the more I like him.

To paraphrase...

"Oh, you mean I'm getting out of line? I really said something wrong? You mean I can't change the way it is?

OK I can live with that. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll get over it"

That, my friend, is the sign of a man who is comfortable in his own skin. In other words, a very respectable and mature attitude to have. I salute you.
