I havent played FS9 for awhile, but before, when i was about to land, I set it on Approach, and it automatically centered the runway and it took me down the glide scope for a perfect landing, now, for some reason, I only can center the runway, it wont go down the glide scope, all i know i Suck now, can someone tell me what I need to do?

First, you must intercept the glide slope from below. In other words, you must be below it and have it come down to you.

Make sure that altitude and airspeed hold are not on in the autopilot.

What I do is that I type in the ILS frequency on my NAV 1 Radio, set the A/P and click on the Approach switch and it puts me right on the money. Try it, let me know if it works.

Nevermind, I forgot to do a few things, and my IFDG Airbus APP doesn't work quite correctly.

I usually set BOTH nav radios to ILS freq, then intercept the flide slope from below as Glenn said, On my 777 professional i set the APP LOC on the Autopilot and hold ALT MANUALLY and control my airspeed by easing the throttles to about 55% N1 and that is sufficient to autoland and slow down quickly (Don't forget that you shouldnt go below 150 IAS as 140 is stall speed [if youve got 150, 000lbs fuel and full pax load!] Just a little advice) Thats how I do it.

sometimes, often, you won`t get the glideslope you want if you are too far from the runway, use you three times table.

3x4=12 for example, so at 4 miles ou t you should be at 1200 feet, this will not be dead exact but enough..

So if you want to intercept the glide at say, 10 miles, then be a bit BELOW 3,000 at ten miles, and the aircraft will intercept from below - you are holding altitude with altitude hold and when the aircraft hits the glideslope, it will descend on the glideslope and disconnect from the altitude hold (Alt) into the glideslope hold, usually.

It will continue to descend -unless you are doing a localiser only appoach (which keeps you on the centerline, as you know) but does not give guidance in elevation.

While going downwind, after you have passed the facility the glidslope needle will go up the further away you get from the airfield facility (i.e., the glidslope system) When it is on the bar (no dev up or down ) then couple that with your height AGL then you have yourself a DME so if you are going downwind at 3,000 ft, then when late down wind if the needle is on the bar and you are at 3 thousand feet then you must be at 10 miles.

Also, if you decide to go around, you must re-select the alt hold mode and make sure VSI is positive - with all the buttons and lights in the right position your aircraft may continue downwards, even with plus 3,000 selected and Rate of Climb selected to + 1500 fpm, and full power and go around flap and gear up, and the proper airspeed - this may seem obvious like the countless CFIT examples we see around the world. So make sure approach mode is disconnected completely with your go around configuration selection - or it will continue downhill.

And, and, sometimes, it will ignore the glideslope, and just stay on ALT Hold so you continue your approach at you last selected altitude and she will not capture the glideslope - b---h, at this point, if you are ahead of the game and can see the runway then continue the approach or consider a VOR /DME type of approach if your MDA is reachable without Stuka dive bombing the approach.

Sometimes, it does not engage. Often, it will not re-engage after a go around so you have to force tune it or tune it manually.

Bottomline - just to be boring, if you intend to descend on the glideslope - and you `aint got the glideslope THEN DON`T DESCEND !! unless you are good VMC.

Autoland reliability and accuracy is in equal proportion to the monitoring skills of the pilot.

You don`t as you say. ----.. you have to learn all about it - its a fun topic.

Ok,Citation Dude?

Just remember, having the plane land itself does not make you not suck. Just practice how to land - You'll get better, and it is a lot more fun. Real-life pilots hardly ever use that technique anyways.
