The in-built 'recorder' isn't actually a video recorder. Let me explain.....The video file produced from screen captures are amazingly large. They can reach the Gb's within seconds. Microsoft developed a 'replay' tool which does not record video, but data. When you tell it to replay, it re-creates the data (pitch, bank, altitude etc) and the aircraft does what it did when you were flying. Because of this, there is no video file to convert and post online.

To record video you will need a screen capture video recorder. There are a few out there, most requiring payment to use. Fraps and Game cam come to mind, and I am sure google will help you out with those. These programs also are very high demand and drain away a lot of performance from the game. Someone experiencing 30Fps normally may not see above 10 when one of these video recorders is running.

Best of luck, Eric

Personally I use fraps, but it does suck the FPS as mensioned above, for the price its worth trying!
Good Luck

Hey thank you so much !!

This was so helpull for me but I don't think I've the power to do that !

I bought a dual Core 2 2.6ghz with 2gigs ram and ATI X1300 video card and FPS with FSX is very, very, but very low !! I'm talking 'bout 6 FPS for take off and landing and 25 FPS at 350 flt lvl !! I've downloaded fraps but I didn't take the time to study or try it yet !!

But your answers were really helpfull !! By the way, I'm located 1 mile north to CYHU for your information !!

I'll post some other questions very soon here 'bout FSX !!

Thanks alot !!

With that system you should be seeing a bit more than 6fps.....I am running a system outdated by yours and my frames are still playable. Head over to Fs2004.com if you haven't already. There is a great topic there that will help you maximize frames in FSX with the help of some tweaks.

For your info, dual core PC's such as yours tend to run video capture software much better than their single core alternates. You will also find that if you record your video minus the sound your frames will increase slightly also.
Users have also shown that Fraps in particular is quicker when running with ATII cards.

Of course, if you really want to record FSX, but 'Fraps' makes it unplayable, you could 'cheat' and use a digital camera or camcorder to record from the screen. Of course, quality isnt as good, but as it runs independantly from your PC, it wont affect performance at all. However, not only may resolution be lower, sound quality may be poorer, the angle may be wrong and you'll most likely get black lines travelling down the picture. But it depends on the quality of your camera.

So really, its a last resort only. But its there. Just thought I'd say icon_wink.gif

Just lower resolution. As you'll anyway encode your video to 640x480 or so to put on the net, run FSX at 800x600 max, you'll have much better FPS in the first place and in addition recording will eat much less resources and disk space icon_wink.gif

"Just lower resolution"

Well, that's what I'm gonna try !! I've put 1280 X 1024 or something like that ! I'll try to lower the resolution !! And to be honest, I didn't think 'bout that before !!

I tried to record with my webcam before but I'm not happy with the quality. I'm just breathless when I'm watching videos of very crazy landing on youtube !

I'm playing FLTSIM since 1995 and that is one of my biggest passion, also champ car and my lovely girlfriend !!

I'm sorry for my mistakes in english, I'm from CYHU and my first language is french !!

Now, to be back on the topic, I'll really try to lower the resolution this week-end. But at first sight, I was pissed off to see my new computer running this game with 6-15 FPS and sometimes 3 FPS at KJFK !

And I really appreciate your forum and your answers !!

Thanks alot

See you soon 'cause I've alot of other questions !!!!
