Hello FL350 community,

How many of you have switched to FSX?
I'm still playing FS9 and am still satisfied icon_biggrin.gif
Anyone still on older versions?
chris_pilot
Nup.. FS9 still crawls along with bottom sliders. Doubt I'll be on FSX anytime soon. Although LevelD made the poor marketing choice to realease their next aircraft, the '57, exclusively for FSX; so I'll see what happens when they bring that out. Until then, I'm perfectly happy flying with FS9, bugs and all!

Cheers,
Chris

I am still with FS9 and loving it.

I don't have a super duper uber computer, nor the ridiculous sum of money it would take to get one.
c150student
I have FSX, and havent played FS9 for a while.

My computer isnt great, but upper mid-range I guess. When SP1 comes out, they're expecting a 20% increase in performance.

Now, perfoemance in FS9 was much better, and because of that you could make it as visually appealing as FSX and get the same frame rates. However, a few things have been added i.e. the multiplayer feature is easy to use (noone mention VATSIM- I tried it but is a pain to get running) and also the head latency effect is great, as it adds another sense of realism to it. I dont feel as seperated from the aircraft.

But probably the main reason is the scenery package I have, which is for FSX only. I'll probably make a seperate topic on it at some point, but it basically uses 1.2Metres/pixel photographic scenery, and 5metres terrain mesh. That means I can fly the circuit at my local airfield but on flight sim, and I'll see every house I actually see from the air. I can see my house too, and best of all, performance is great (mainly because autogen is disabled) and I get around 40-50+ FPS. Plus, it covers the whole of England and Wales. I had a similar package for FS9, but wasnt as good because FS9 didnt allow for 1m/pixel textures etc.

I eargerly await the arrival of FSX SP1, so I can crank up some of the settings a bit without experiencing much of a drop in performance. The guys at MS know they mucked up and are working hard to fix it.

Wohoo, FS9 prevails icon_biggrin.gif

I got FSX for Christmas but haven't been able to install it because I really ned to fix my computer as it just about prevails with FS9. And anyway I like FS9 and even if my computer gets fixed for FSX, I don't really know if I will install it. (Maybe later on).

I'm still on FS9 and am not going to switch any time soon. Firstly my PC is not up to FSX and secondly, I'm still satisfied with FS9. The graphics are fine, the frames per second are fine and it generally is just right for me.
kc135dood
I have FS9 and will continue to use it, as when I get a new computer that'll be able to run FSX, I probably won't use it.

Im running FSX

On full graphics too, it looks very nice and the frame rate is good, mind I do have a 7900gs xt.

I'm running FSx on that card too. Worked fine, but then it stopped working - not fault of the software/hardware, but of that @!*&£" Cobzz, who decided it would be funny to send me a corrupt CFG, which was going to 'improve' my gameplay. icon_rolleyes.gif
c150student
Then.... why not revert to the old cfg?
klm_city_hopper
Because I can't be bothered with the fuss, I've let it rebuild itself, but its still not happy.
cobzz
fsX because it's better than fs9.

All at around a very playable 20fps. If you have framerate problems with fsX that is YOUR fault, and you obviously have no idea on how it works if you do. If you bought it and it ran like garbage; your fault.

Haha yeah I got a good laugh outa that!

Serously though that was an accident and I still do not know what went wrong. Oh and for the record I told YOU to back the file up.

What fuss? to back up your fsx.cfg just select it then press Ctrl-C then Ctril V. There, instand backup. icon_rolleyes.gif
c150student
Have you got light bloom enabled? Thats meant to eat into your frame rates. A bit like me and pizza...

Depends where I'm flying. I usually have it enabled though.

Oh and guys all them shots were on a fairly average rig.
klm_city_hopper
Completely ignore that Cobzz, just deleted the CFG and let it re-build itself, and it works fine....

There is two meanings to that. Wtf?

Ignore me? Or Ignore 'that' post you made before.
boeingsrbetter
calm down, you guys. I got busted for something like this before. (No comment) Don't jeopardize your amazingly important subscription to FL350.com. Even though there's no (dang) free speech here.

Ignore the post, as he has it fixed now.

boeingsrbetter, are you really sure this adds anything useful to the discussion apart from helping the misunderstanding get worse?

just tryin' to keep u buds outta trouble from the foum police. you'll start getting PMs from them, trust me. I do not like it, and you won't either. (I'll probably get in trouble for a typo, now. aghhhhh)

Considering Kilrah is one of those 'forum police'.....

Anyway - no, I haven't and won't be upgrading to FSX. My computer can't run it, and I'm happy with what FS9 provides me with anyway.

It's not the typo, but those 2 useless posts that are nothing but calling for an argument that would get you one. I'm sure you can understand that.

Hi all icon_biggrin.gif

Long time lurker first time poster hehe

I switched to FSX when it came out and im really pleased with it apart from one thing..

I noticed on pictures i have seen of it Aircraft parked at a jetway and that being attached to the aircraft. Thing is of all the airports i have flown to and from i haven't seen a jetway yet. Only parking spaces with a truck for pushback and a few other vehicles.

Do these jetways actually exist or do they have to be added?

Regards,

The_Stig icon_smile.gif
cobzz
Sweet.

Now with SP1 I can turn up autogen to 503 trees per cell and 251 autogen buildings, max out water reflections and still get 20fps over cities, and thats with scenery radius at large. :D
boeingsrbetter
About the topic for jetways, first of all, welcome! second of all, the jetways appear on AI computer traffic after they shutdown. They only automatically appear on the AI trfc, not the a/c that you fly. hope that helps!

If you have an Add-on where also your aircraft has a jetway, you can get this addon

http://www.simflight.com/modules.php?name=...rticle&sid=8927

and your jetways will be 'active' when you arrive / leave icon_biggrin.gif
AES also features lots of other goodies, such as a marshaller, pushback trucks, 'follow me' vans...

I have FSX and i love love love it! HOWEVER, i refuse to use it until they create a SquawkBox module for it. That's all i ever do anymore is go online to fly, i cant stand flying with the AI ATC. They made FSInn for FSX, but i absolutely hate it. So, i'm still using FS 2002 beleive it or not. I'm too lazy to spend $20 on FS9 b/c once the SB4 is out, i'll just put it in the circular file. Other than that, FSX runs fine on my comp, i just dont have the need to use it yet.

I also detest FSInn.
If your interested in some details on what stage Squawkbox 4 is at:
From November 28, 2006:
"Ready for Testing
Completing all the nuances of the new SquawkBox installer took longer than expected, but it's in pretty good shape. I sent out a build of SquawkBox for FSX to a small set of beta testers tonight. Once they've run it through its paces and I have completed the last couple of features, it should be ready for a public open beta."

Stay tuned here for more updates.

I wonder if many in the online community will switch to FSX once it gets released.

OMG, i check daily for updates on the SB4 model. I hate FS2k2 with a passion that burns with the white hot intensity of 1,000 suns. The day it comes out is the day the sun will shine on all parts of the earth.
boeingsrbetter
A little bit dramatic there, are you? But I agree totally.
riversiderebel
oh yeah brother, im still sporting my good old FS9. If my performance is not that great in FS9. lord know what it would be on FSX. simulators RULE!
