just want to question about if let us say you are on a A380 a brand new, state of the art Airbus aircraft, what can you do if the said aircraft occured a Y2K like virus in its computer system, the thing is your in the middle of the flight, 35,000 feet above sea level, with full load of Passengers and the worst thing is there are no parachuttes installed/available (quite stupid huh?? icon_razz.gif )

Well i guess the crew would have to order the passengers around the plane, like from the front and aft, and from right to left, and control the plane weight-shift-style cheers.gif . but anyways i don't think al-qaida have come up with such a virus, and anyways i bet the a380 and all modern are quite protected against that stuff. Are there even any plane-computer-viruses?

There are enough redundancy measures that won't let this happen, which has already been discussed in many other threads....

Well the A320 has 5 (i think) computers. Each one has two halfs, each monitors the other half checking for errors. In the very rare event that a malfunction occurs then the plan can be, if needed, controlled from one computer. There are also basic mechanical links to the major control surfaces so even if all the computers fail the plane is still in control.

The A380 will no doubt have a similar system.
