Question About Viewing Airliner Cockpits Options

Hi, I am going to India with my family in July this summer. I was wondering, since I am so obsessed with the Boeing 747, can I sit in the jumpseat on Singapore airlines? To watch the pilots take off the airplane and/or land?

I Would really love to, can someone help me on HOW to? like do I have to ask/who would I ask.

one thing you can do is when the plane lands, and everyone is getting off just stay in your seat untill everyones off and just introduce yourself to the flight attendants and request to see the flight deck if possible

remember to be humble and polite, and if they say no just thank them and leave.. try for the flight home

Its a real shame you can't go in to cockpit anymore in flight ever since 9/11. I would take the second option. When everyone has gone, stay back and ask politely. I think there is a greater chance that you will aloud to view the cockpit. :D

then howcome the videos of cockpit taking off aare on this website? Howcome they got to see the plane take off while in the jumpseat?

Thats correct. With Swiss/Swissair the cockpit crew is not even allowd to bring relativs to the cockpit during flt. Imagine, not even the own wife! And if your employee of the carrier, on top of that you have to have a CMC (Crew Member Certificate) Its sad compaired to the old times when the cockpit door was open during the whole flt and everyone who asked was allowed to have a glimp over the fltcrews shoulder.

How a few people can change the whole situation. The Cockpit doors are today locked with 3 bolts and surveilled with several cameras.

A lot of airlines or tech services offers tours to the public, where you can see the cockpit from inside. But of course it is not the same with 'power off'

no it's not the same as power off, i wanted to talk to the pilots of the plane while in air (if possible).

because i want to be a pilot when i am older.

i got to fly jumpseat for a little while on an Alitalia flight from rome-jfk, pilots were really nice, had a nice chat with the Co-pilot and he gave me his preflight papers and his weather briefings to keep :D i thought it was the coolest thing, it talks about the plane, fuel it had, where it could land as an alt in case of emergency, then 2 weeks later 9-11 happened, and i knew i'd never be able to do it again unless i was wearin stripes

You will probley not be allowed in the cockpit unless the pilot is having a very very good day and he likes bending the rules then you might be able to on skywest know one is allowed in the cockpit while the plane is in motion unless you are a pilot

Yeah that is true but my dad was a mechanic for USAirways and they wouldnt let him up there unless it was on the ground it sucks but once he left aviation apart of me died im going to be a pilot in memory of him ive grown up around avaition mostly around the 300s and 400s but i hopefully will get fly the god allmighty mad dog i know off subject but the closet i ever go was to sit on a overnighter for awhile up in chicago which was really cool because i got to mess with cargo doors and the GPU he would take me to do his overnight checks he always said he checked his airplanes as if he or his family members were flying on them! i even got to walk on the wings but on the thickest part where they would evacuate incase of an emegency and if im not mistaken way back when say 1996 i even got to go on pushback and sit with my dad and even talk to the pilots this was back when you were trusted! damn terroist now they wont even let me on the ramp even if he worked for them but hey my dad didnt care he loved me he was a lead mechanic if that had anything to do with it but sorry just thought you would like to know just trying to keep a good memory of my dad floating and my dad wonderd why i wanna be a pilot lol made fun of me! Sorry I don't think is going to happen. as crewmwmber I'm telling you ..Unless you work for the company, it's never going to happen.. u.s. carrires dont even let employees up there unless you are working crew ..or a jumpseating pilot.. that's it.. sorry it's not the same after 9/11.. and it never will be..

I tried the second option, asking to the flight assistants after landing and after all the people went out the plane and she asked to the capt. She returned from te cockpit smiling and told me I could get into it. The F/O let me sitting on his seat while the capt was doing I don't know what touching wevery button. I tried to get into the cockpit in flight, but they say:NO WAY. So I'd try the second.

It is a shame really!!
