It appears that England winning a game of cricket is of more importance in current affairs programming than an impending fuel crisis and a corner of the nation in political turmoil. Not that i grudge the english a win in a sport i understand very little about, apart from the fact they drink rather a lot of tea and play for five days without a winner . I Congratulate England on this achievement but do the media really have to treat it as a national news story (ie United Kingdom) when it should really only recieve regional attention. (ie in England)
What the English media dosen't understand is that about 97 % of the population of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland really couldn't give a monkeys about The Ashes and cricket yet they feel obliged to fill our news and sports programmes with continuous updates from where ever they are playing this obscure sport.
PS.... CONGRATULATIONS to the Scottish Elephant Polo Team who have just won the Elephant Polo World Cup in Thailand.......... (seriously)

Ok first things first the reason why everybody is more interested in cricket than an impending fuel crisis is because, and I quite a close friend: ''It's already been done, this time round it will be 'Oh well, I really wish they wouldn't do this' people will get angry, the strike will be cut short due to an uprising and then the prices will continue to rise no matter what .... because of Katrina, etc etc. Plus people will have already brought the fuel the week before and filled the tanks.''
I may agree a slight bit on NATIONAL NEWS (UK) but yes it should be broadcast, this is a time for celebration, for which we have waited for nearly 16 years. It doesn't happen very often to England, and they've done well to come from behind to win. But as for English TV news, then yes it should definately be broadcast cos it's OUR country that have won one of the most contested cups in THE CRICKET WORLD!
Anyway well done to England, I don't usually watch cricket but this has kept me really interested for the past like 6 odd weeks. COME ON ENGLAND cos we know the footy side of England won't do naff all at the World Cup :D

I'll start my own thread regarding the Elephant Polo World Cup then :D
It's the only thing Scotland's won in 2000 years of existence.
But in all seriousness, big congrats to England's cricketers, they have played a marvellous series by all accounts and i might even show a small piece of interest in the next cricket world cup as Scotland will be competing in it. Not that i expect them to do anything because instead of drinking tea, the Scots cricketers have the nasty habit of hitting the hard stuff . Where did that ball go ?

I quite disagree with you there flight boffin, you said out football team is useless. I think our football team is quite good and if the manager is a turnip, why would he be leading them in the first place then?
ps I'm new here and if i do anything wrong please tell me so that i can correct it, thanks.
