Ranger,

I'm not going to blow up on you. Tall dude didn't read it thoroughly and basically reacted accordingly. I even went back and double checked what i said to make sure i didn't owe him an apology first.

RLTW, you are right, but here in Afghanistan they always need a ride to that place, and we are here to get you there.

Good it hear it, Bow. Like I wrote in my earlier post, I have little tolerance for that kind of argument. And I'd be less than honest if I didn't say that both sides irritate me. I've listened to it in cockpits for 25 years and I guess it's gotten old.

My experience with helicopter pilots was never anything but positive. In fact, beyond positive. I honestly can't count the number of times that a Slick , Snakes, Night Hawk or some other fling wing showed up to do whatever we asked them to do and more. I know that you guys that fly 'em today do the same magnificent job as the Vietnam guys, but, God bless 'em, the Vietnam era helicopter pilots are my heroes. I'm still trying to figure out where they put all those wheel barrels while they were flying.

Keep your head down and remember that there are grunts on the ground that have never met you who love you like a brother.

Hey Longbow ...
I come from the same era as my buddy Ranger (i.e., been there, done all that, have the T-shirt, coffee cup, and a "dollars 0ff" coupon for another one) and I want to add my 3 cents to his comment.

In addition to you being sure you know that there are "grunts" on the ground over there that you have never met who love you like a brother, I want you to know that there are a lot of "fly-boys" over there, probably well above your altitude and airspeed, who love you just the same way, AND there are a whole bunch of very grateful Americans over here, who not only love you like a brother, but are as proud of you and your "buds" over there, as a new papa with a cigar stuck in his kisser! Not that you need it, but you have my permission to be as bad-a**-arrogant and as hard-as-nails aggressive as the situation dictates - just come home safely!

Damn Rabbit,

Thanks for the support, and I'm pretty arrogant dude, but sometimes i forget the war isn't on the Flight Level350 and get carried away. I will say thought that here when the helmet goes on it is game time in the cockpit, and it is a no holds game. Simple rules, be the first to see the other and blow them away. If he sees me first and misses he better be ready, because i don't miss. I obliterate! Thanks for the kind words and support, I'm glad to know that when i help they are thankful. In fact I have spoken witha few of the commanders of the Ground Pounders and they love it when we come over the hills and start kicking **I have a dirty mouth** for them.. Well take care Rabbit, Ranger and Talldude. I'll be here for many more times to come.

QUOTE(Longbow_Pilot)
There are many factors of aircraft operation that go beyond the knowledge of the passengers.

One, some aircraft cannot have rapid acceleration, it can stress joints and creat unneccessary wear and tear on the airframe.

Engine power, sometimes depending on the DA, Temp, and gross weights affect how fast you accelerate.

Lastly, I think anyone here will say the same thing. A smooth control movement is better than an abrupt one.

I agree.. back in 1998, I took off on Us Airways the pilot what seemed like he pushed the throttle all the way forward, everything in the bins above us you could hear it shift.

it's cool to feel the pushing into the seat but I rather them just do a rolling start and work the way up.

Would someone PLEASE make this little dude salute with his RIGHT hand? To the non-military folks it isn't a big deal. To those of us who have worn a uniform it's on the insulting side.

If you're gonna do it, do it right!
