Same here. The variable geometry wings make the F14 better for me.

They are both great, but F-14 is the one I prefer. That is because of retractable wings and those mighty engines. To bad they are retiring it from the fleet  F/A-18 may be better, but they don't look as awesome as Tomcats 8)

F-4 is positive proof that given enough power one can make a BRICK FLY. (power out glide coefficient of a BRICK - of course, one could make the same claim about the C-130 lead sled)

F-14 is getting pretty long in the tooth. One interesting thing, though - the GIB (guy in back) can FLY the F-4. The GIB in the 14 has no flight controls whatever - he's just along for the ride

Well obviously the navy liked the F-14 better, or else it wouldn't have been around so long. To bad it's time for their retirement.

Awesome. I'm the only person (so far) to vote for the Phantom. Here's why: It just barrels on and on. And it uses the same engine that the F-104 uses and makes a delightful howl when they spool up. It's a powerful killer.

That said, it was a real toss-up. I like the F-14, too. If the choices were either of these two and any other similar aircraft, I'd have picked one of these two.

From the F-4's role in the Vietnam war, it seemed more of an attack plane than a fighter in my opinion. Yes id did fight, but it also dropped loads of bombs (Maybe should have been a F/A-4?). So I think they are both very different airplanes. The F-14 is newer of course and has better air to air missile systems. So I think the F-14 is better, but the F-4 was still a tank (in a good way).

I like both planes a lot. I voted for the F-4. The F-4 has broken more records than any plane in history including altitude, endurance, closed circuit and absolute speed marks, and time to altitude.

In Dec. 1959, a Navy YF-4H flew to a record altitude of 98,534 ft. In Sept., 1960, another Navy F-4 set a 100Km closed-circuit speed record of 900.75 mph. The sustained altitude record was set by the same Navy F-4 at 66,427 ft, and the absolute world speed record was set by the same F-4 at 1603 mph over Edwards AFB. In 1962 the Navy's F-4, "Sageburner" set several new time to altitude records that were held until the F-15E broke them all.

For me it's the vernerable F-4 Phantom 2...I just love it's lines and even though the F-14 Tomcat is a more capable fighter; you have to admit that the F-4 Phantom did hold it's own, when needed! I think the most beautiful of F-4 Phantom models is the F-4E Phantom 2...with the internal M61 complete with 639-round ammunition drum. Armed also with Sparrow and sidewinder missiles...that aircraft is spoiling for a fight!
