1. The 747 ADV will use some 787 technology (i.e. engines and flight deck)

2. The 747 ADV will be longer than the -400 with more passenger capacity and higher gross weight.

3. The 747 ADV is still in development and hasn't been launched yet.

To put it short, updated avionics, a stretched fueslage, better fuel consumption.

Advanced pretty much explains it dosen't it?

Yeah, the 747 ADV will also create some competition for the A380 icon_wink.gif

The 747ADV will also have raked wing tips as opposed to the ones on the 747-400.

not really just fill the gap between the b777 a340-500-600 series while at the same time giving a lower cost advantage to those who can afford the $280 million plus the A380 is going to cost.

The 747ADV isn't a direct competitor to the A380. The A380 is in a class all its own as far as passenger capactity is considered; not to mention that the version we see now is not even stretched. Look at the chord on the wing!!! It's huge!!! I can tell you right now we'll be seeing 1000 passenger variants coming very soon. The 747ADV will fill a slot just below the A380.

I think one of the main reasons Boeing has decided to build the ADV is they can't afford to let Airbus have a "cash cow". Boeing had their own "cash cow" for almost 40 yrs in the 747; it really didn't have a competitor and made Boeing billions of dollars which it was able to put into the development of the 777 and the 787. If Airbus was allowed to have their own cash cow, they would just put the money back into making better airplanes.

747 adv is on the back burner until 787 development is complete - the boys (and girls) in Everett are up to their collective fannies in 787 development right now - not enough manpower to try to do a 747 major overhaul at the same time. Renton engineering (narrow body) is doing the MMA (Navy replacement for P-3 based on 737) so they have lots of work as well.

Talk was to use the 787 engine technology to increase fuel economy for the 747adv.

That means a LOT of other "little" changes. <sarcasm mode off> icon_eek.gif
