Japan earthquake: Radioactive leak plugged at reactor

A leak of highly radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean from Japan's crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has been stopped, its operator reports.

Tepco said it had injected chemical agents to solidify soil near a cracked pit that was the source of the leak.

As this video shows, the crisis is far from over. I worry about the long term effects of all the marine life plus the time it takes for it to disperse enough to be almost harmless. or is is ever that? The ocean is huge but we are seeing the effects as far away as Russia. The Japanese are trying everything they know, but will it be enough? Time will tell.

Yes I totally agree Dash.Nuclear power is efficient but so difficult to deal with when it becomes unstable through either an earthquake or a malfunction at the plant. Before anymore Nuclear Power stations are built we all have to look very closely at the various scenarios which can occur through the life of the plant and try and discover how to deal with any unexpected disasters for the sake of our future generations and this fragile planet. icon_thumright.gif
