As opposed to cockpits with all analog instruments? I'm very curious about this.

One of the big drivers for going glass is that the initial expense will be saved many times over over the life of the aircraft in maintenance costs. Glass is significantly cheaper to maintain. Steam gauges tend to break down every so often, while glass just keeps ticking.
