This happened on the 4 July and was the 2nd time out of 3 (as of December 2009) that this particular QANTAS A380 was in an emergency situation at Heathrow. ATC chatter is available for some of the video.
THE CAUSEFaulty, over-sensitive sensors which confirm and maintain the function of the aircraft's steering system.
THE RESULTThe pilot of the aircraft requested a go-around whilst they performed troubleshooting tasks to try and resolve the issue. Unable to do so the aircraft was forced to land on Runway 27L with the problem still in effect. The aircraft was unable to turn on its own accord so was stuck on the Runway until a tractor could come and pull it to the terminal. The problem was resolved quickly and the aircraft was able to perform the return journey to Sydney (via Singapore) with a short delay.
