Last night I was making a flight with a continental 737-300 with simairline.net. I was going from Houston to La Guardia. I was burning fuel like crazy. I was crusing at 35,000 feet too. Then after I had burned off enough fuel to where I could't make it to La Guardia, I noticed that my flaps were down by 2. Could this have been the problem? Something so minor? After some close calls refueling at Dulles/Washington, I made it to LGA. It was still burning fuel at an extreme rate. Then I discovered the gears were still down!
Does something like flaps being down or the gear being down affect fuel efficency?
