On a P-3, we have a fire of unknown origin checklist we run should someone smell an electrical fire, or if we get a rackoverheat light. Had a few myself but have never noticed one on a commercial flight. Are there similar procedures??? Thanks for answers FE

Yes - How many would you like? We have Airconditioning, Cabin Equipment, Electrical, Toilet and a general Smoke Removal Procedure.

No I didn't because we don't have smoke removal procedures for these potential sources.

Gee......that might be a back up. IE do you get a sensor reading indicator that tells you what has overtemped to a certain degree? What if there is smoke in the tube ( cabin) , are there procedures to eliminate it? Thanks FE

We don't have smoke removal procedures either, but we sure have checklists for overheats, bleed air leaks, and electrical anomolies...to include an unknown origin diagnostic list. It's not just about smoke...

...at least not for us...

The original post asked a specific question and the procedures which we have available will run you into each and every system that is capable of smoke generation (excluding cargo hold) and give you either afix, mitigation or advice (like land quick!). Specific Checklists are good but trying to get the correct drill performed at FL350 when the thing is filling up with smoke could be pain when an approved but generic, catch-all drill might perform the all of the required actions to give you freash air and a flyable aircraft.

Landing gear smoke is not a drill we have. Neither is wheel well fire but we do have a drill for Brake Overheat. Bleed Air is covered by the (general) Smoke Removal Procedure. Airconditioning, Cabin, Electrical and Toilet Smoke have their own drills and we have automatic protection for Duct Leak and overtemps which is then backed up by drills on the MFDU and Emergency Checklists.
