There it was QFE sitting there all alone, not doing anyone any harm and they binned it - why? Why not have QFE, ah, because it is sane and logical that is why and hey, maybe it was making flying just that bit too easy, I mean life would get boring if on a rainy night we did not have to stop and calculate the Airfield QNH from the Regional QNH and hey make sure you get the Alt right and don`t forget the AMSL to get the Elev and there you go. .. now all you have to do is work out your height above the threshold by adding the height of the field at AMSL - wassat? You wanna GO AROUND?!? - yer big p---y!!

Now, if we had Q F E again, all we would have to do in the above scenario - is:. . . . . . . . set QFE - done!

In, one, move - you have a pressure setting which is zero at the aerodrome ref point - da-daaa!!

So I say, folkies, take to the streets bring back QFE write to your local FAA man (as the CAA will do damn all about it) write to your congressman (make sure you get the phone num of your local friendly Senator) or write to your MP indeed, write to the PM nothing will happen unless we - the people that drive the things around the skies do something or say something. Tell AOPA - now there`s an idea.

I say bring back QFE for flight safety in general. We aint` all got RAD ALT y`know.
