Here is a good blog about how Google's Android OS will be a big challenge for Apple's iPhone. I love my iPhone, but wow, this Android system sounds like the future in a couple of years!

Maybe, maybe not... The iPhone's closed hardware and software architecture is what makes most of its simplicity and recognition. An open system allows more flexibility, but more flexibility involves more complexity and more chances that somebody will make crippled software, different hardware will need different drivers, possible incompatibilities... We find the eternal Mac/PC difference.

We'll see. But indeed if it does manage to be successful that won't be before a couple of years - for now software offering is close to zero, so the only reason you'd get an Android phone now is to use the stock features... not that interesting for a smartphone.

Note: I don't have an iPhone, but I'm a long-time WinMo phone user.

Something I'm very excited about is Windows Mobile 7. I've just got myself a new HTC Touch Pro 2 and it has WinMo 6.1 on it. It's really great but I was a bit dissapointed by the process of finding and installing applications. It's difficult to find what you want and when you finally do and install it, it's very rare the app works the for the first time. I usually find myself trouble shooting for ages to try and get it working.

With WinMo 7, Microsoft should be opening 'Microsoft Marketplace' which is like the Apple App store. I think it's a great idea. I just hope Microsoft do a good job of it.... Hopefully the apps will be good quality and don't end up ruining your phone or just not working. Lots of free ones would be good too icon_thumright.gif

With Android, how do you go about connecting it to a computer? Windows Mobile easily connects to a PC and an iPhone easily pairs with a MAC but what about an Android phone?

It will take a while to determine how Google does with it's Android OS, but they do have a lot of money and experience so if any company could seriously compete with the iPhone or Blackberry, I think Google could.

Windows mobile 7 looks interesting too!
