Sorry, folks, didn't mean to come on so strong, but I used to spend a long time @here and have HAD a lot of friends here, like to encourage young ppl. to fly, and learn from the Old Wings.... but when I came back, it was all different, and under current TOS it looks like you have to personally own all aircraft depicted, and/or have about 30 100-page legal letters on file granting you Formal, Legal, COP-y-wrong permission to post ANYTHING!

Fame and fortune matters nothing to me, I am anonymous, do everything under this weird name, (try Googling it and ignoring Japanese kid-game). I'm just a 59-yr.-old-but-current PPL, SEL (Complex since 1976). Since I was 4, I somehow KNEW I was born to fly, and worked to finance a college education and my PPL at the same time. Got my BA and Private Ticket within months of each other, PPL SEL granted by FAA Nov. 1974, B.A. granted by Univ-Texas at Austin May 1975! Won't bore you with types flown, but worked up from Lineboy Gofer at LRD in 1976-77 to Night Shift Line Chief at LRD' MAIN Old-REAL-Pilot-Style FBO. AND precautionary-landing a SWEARINGEN MERLIN II
when BOTH of our fuel-pressure gauges pegged down to ZERO at 7,000 ft headin' S outta San Antone.. for Laredo. SAT Tower made all the Big Iron go around... even turned on the Rabbit for us. Had to redline her at 350 knots indicated in a 90+ bank just to get down to where we should be, slightly above Pattern alt 2 miles from Rnwy 1-3. Never fell for the "get me a left-handed airscrew" or "bucket of propwash" old initiation-jokes, either. I had read too much since age 7 when I got First Ride in REAL 45-hp J-3 Cub. With my ...um... err..."Aircraft Line Technician" savings, paid for an AWFUL HARD SCHOOL and then I work in a certain place where everybody wears suits and they call me "Counsel".
Flashback to 1973, and I'm plunkin' down for 1 lesson/mo. in a 150 from a bunch of instructors, some True Sky Masters, ...and one who pulled my engine at 2,000- no big deal, trim her up for 70 Best Glide 7' Fwd-to-1' down and find a decent field... check fuel to BOTH, mags ON, carb heat ON, engine's got gas, air, spark, gear down and welded, Flaps dropping right, etc.. Closer and closer we glided down until it was clear we would land safely on a 2-dirt-track grass-hump-in-middle ranch road w/ barbed-wire fence along its R side.... Instructor said/did NOTHING, seemed to be all scrunched down in his seat watching, but with BIG SCARED-STIFF eyes. HE DIDN'T EVER EVER give me engine back OR EVEN A YOKE-WIGGLE, SO....flew the 150 until TOUCHDOWN, and we're rollin' along nose-high, soft-field style, engine idling, yaw-bouncing from gear to main gear, me holding nosewheel UP (didn't DARE let it down on grassy rock-log-concealing middle hump there) LIGHT ailerons to LEFT and out of corners of eyes watching Hard Texas Cedar fenceposts flash by <18 in. under my R wingtips...
Finally I saw the fenceline WAY ahead made a hard 90 car-turn to L, still waiting, still bouncing along the ranch-road, thinkin' "This guy is either crazy or a Marine!" (no difference), & raised up to 10 deg. flaps ready to go UP, and he's just sittin' there like a lump, still cringed down in his seat, REALLY trying to crawl under his seat, not daring to look out... SO... I thought: "This idiot ain't gonna crash ME, so I DID the Necessary and REtook MY airplane and shoved in throttle, cleared fence's turn by 40-60 ft.over, climbing w/FINE airspeed, in a GREAT plane.. at about 1,500 AGL I just LOOKED HARD at him silently.. he un-cringed just a bit and stammered out (he was that terrified): "I....I didn't mean for us to TOUCH DOWN!" And it took all my self control NOT to yell at him "WHY DIDN'T YOU EVER SIGNAL ME SOMEHOW that I had throttle again-EVER?" He had NO answer- so I just narrowed my eyes with contempt, took HIM back to Old LKS W. of Houston and landed, pointedly unbuckled his belt for him, disgusted with this useless guy who had the nerve to charge me for almost crashing us BOTH and obviously had NO clue about REAL Instructoring or ANY real right to use ANY aircraft controls... but at least now I knew I could handle a pasture fenceline pickup-truck road deadstick landing in a Cessna, w/ Texas bobwire fence underwing. Went in and told Instructor Boss (who also happened to be the FAA Designee-Examiner) and told him in few words The Story. Went home, NEVER saw that cringin' ALLEGED instructor again...
LESSON 1: Just because he/she has Instructor Ticket DOES NOT MEAN they will not try to kill BOTH of us.
LESSON 2. Like when lost at night: CLIMB, COMMUNICATE, CONFESS,(HE DIDN'T!) & COMPLY....
LESSON 3. Idiots are EVERYWHERE! (Even teaching teenager pilots!)
LESSON 4. FLY YOUR AIRPLANE (correctly!) ABOVE ALL ELSE! AND KNOW HER!
LESSON 5. GET A REAL PILOT FOR AN INSTRUCTOR! NOT A JUNE BUG!
Left right after Boss-instructor report of turned-out-harmless Incident. Hope the FAA-man tore up his Instructor-ticket RIGHT THEN & THERE, but know nothing of what happened AFTER... except the cringin' June Bug was GONE forever after and troubled us no more. NOT easy to learn to fly RIGHT when yer INSTRUCTOR tries to crash ya...
