Thats strange, because my flying school in the UK said its not a good idea to go to the US to build hours because they dont fly right. Well, not the same as in the UK. But the fuel is dirt cheap, so you can probably get more flying time for less money.

We don't fly right? Excuse me? How exactly do we fly?
Anyway, you cannot easily transfer your ratings from FAA to JAR without doing your training over again, but you can go easily from JAR to FAA. People do come here from overseas to do flight training though.

I hope Frontier is still around when you are old enough to be a pilot. Times are tough and it's a "whole different animal" in this industry than it was a year ago.

PS, Boeingrules, don't forget Frontier has an all Airbus fleet! icon_lol.gif

Hi Im new to the forum,

I am going to do my CPL next month, I would like to know what's next after I complete my CPL?
Can I pilot an A319/A320?
Do I have to do additional Type Ratings say A320 for me to be able to pilot an Airbus A320 as a Junior/First Officer? plane.gif
If yes what are the requirements to obtain a Type Rating for A320 or boeing 737, how long will it take and the cost of the Ratings?

Thanks

Regards

You're several years and hundreds of hours ahead of yourself. No, you can't fly anything with jet engines as PIC if you hold just a CPL. Yes, you could fly the right seat. But nobody's going to hire you. Google the type ratings. You could probably do one tomorrow. Then you be typed in a jet and still unemployable.

You need education, experience (in the form of quality flight time) and certificates/ratings to get into a position to fly professionally. Right now it sounds to me like to need at least two of the three.

I kind of knew that, So what are the perequisites for me to take the type ratings required? icon_question.gif
Im not worried about the flying hrs...I will have them eventually!
As for Education I had been working for 4 years as an Analyst Programmer for the government, BSc in Computer science!
Im 26 now...and I am going to do my CPL next month and I would like to do a type rating after that...and then pile up the hours! Is it the right approach, please advise.

Just want to know the amount of time it takes to get a type rating for a boeing 737 or Airbus A320 and the cost.

Thank you for your help.

Three words..... no, no, no. You didn't read carefully. Type ratings are absolutely worthless without experience. Yes, you could go out and buy one. Why would you do that other than impatience or to stroke your own ego? You'd spend those dollars and what happens if you run into a medical problem or conditions change and you aren't able to go on with your training? It's not a smart plan. Spend the money where you get the biggest bang for the buck, build some time and then do the type rating if you bent on doing it. In fact, I'd think strongly of doing the type rating at the same time that you do an ATP, 1,500 hours of flight time.

Patience, Grasshoppah, patience.

Thank you for the advice, I guess after my CPL I will pile up the hours. For now I will concentrate on getting my CPL, then I will worry about the rest. icon_thumright.gif

With pilot training and career questions, it is very important to state your location!

What? Can we change our names? How? I wish to modify mine!

There's an article in FLYING of MAY 2010, FLYINGMAG.COM.
The title is: Flight School: Does accelerated flight training work? page 36, by Lane Wallace.

Pretty interesting. Here's a short abstract:

""We asked two nationally recognized experts in flight training to weigh in on the effectiveness of "accelerated" flight training -- those weekend, 10-day or short-term immersion courses that offer flight ratings in short periods of time. Their opinions differed somewhat -- John King (co-owner of King Schools, [seen in MSFS 2004]) is a more unabashed fan of accelerated learning than is Michael Phillips (Master Flight Instructor, charter member of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators - SAFE, Instructor at CP Aviation, Santa Paula, California). But they both agree that accelerated learning can be effective with a reputable company, a well-designed training program and a well-prepared pilot.""
So here they talk about ratings for "confirmed" pilots already, but maybe the same exists for pilot licence, I don't know.
matt_1mcneil, this article is not for you, you are young, so I think you have time to first start by learning to fly around the runway, and step by step you will go up one notch until you one day take us poor travelers that we are in a....A380! why not? to ..... i don't know, this earth is vast enough, we will find one final destination....
Good luck icon_thumright.gif plane.gif
