Well i used to do karate as a kid, i got up to red belt, which in my karate was 2 away from black. That would be usefull in a flight deck having a black belt lol. Heeeeeee Yahhh (slice those terrorists in half)

Good poll, Good post.

I did Shotokan Karate for 4 years and loved it...
http://x-plane.org/home/xplain/dojo-2.jpeg
(Tinfish training in Scotland)

But then I did Aikido for a few years and realised
that the 'softer' martial arts are a lot more subtle, and less
harsh on the body and mind than Karate etc. (100 pushups on your
knuckles per karate session cant be that good for the joints).

"Slice those terrorists in half"? Hmmm. I dont think you need Karate
to do that, since the terrorists are only too willing to slice themselves
in half - as we can see every day in the terrible 'out-of-control'
chaos of Iraq. But I guess thats another poll.

Cheerz,

Tin

The 'word on the street' is that 'Sensais' get offended by 'Haa YA' and other verbal sound effects icon_razz.gif.

Although I couldn't be bothered now, When I was younger I wish I did karate, It seems like an elegant way to defend yourself, rather than 'omg i'll smash ur face in **I have a dirty mouth**'

Yes, its a super discipline. But its also worth bearing in mind that it is the West who has turned Karate (and most other martial arts) into just a form of self-defence. Karate is in fact as much a spiritual pursuit as a physical one (the term 'Do' - as in Ju-Do, AikiDo etc refers to 'the Way", e,g, the way to total undestanding of the your-self on all levels: body mind and spirit.

Tin

Quote:

"Each year in the month of April, a great number of new students enroll in the karate classes of the universities' physical education departments - most of them, fortunately, with the dual purpose of building up their spiritual as well as their physical strength. Nonetheless, there are always some whose only desire is to learn karate so as to make use of it in a fight. These almost inevitably drop out of the course before half a year has passed, for it is quite impossible for any young person whose objective is so foolish to continue very long in karate. Only those with a higher ideal will find karate interesting enough to persevere in the rigors it entails. Those who do will find that the harder they train, the more fascinating the art becomes".

Hmmm i thaght it was just to learn how to mess up someone real bad lol. Nah i mainly did it for my co-ordination- apparently i used to be REAL un co ordinated when i was around 6. And i must say, it has helped severly, before aparently i couldn't stand on one foot, now i can do that while rubbing my tummy and patting my head lol. But karate is good fun...
