Zip Files, Having Trouble with WME Options

Today I tried to open up Windows Media Encoder, and an error message popped up that said something about "Zipped Files" and that it's either invalid or uncompressed? I downloaded the Zip Genius, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do next.

Now every time I try to open WME a message pops up asking whether or not I want to open or save the file under Zip.

This was never a problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a file association issue within Windows. Right-click on the WME file/shortcut and select "Open With" and select Windows Media Encoder, then check the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Without more information, this is my best guess.

I removed the Zip Genius, after not needing it. And it looks like your guess was right. It's running fine right now.

Ok, problems again.

I tried to open up the WME profile on my FL350 account, and it kept asking me if I wanted to save the file? I would click yes, and select Windows Media Encoder under "Open with". But now it still won't open up properly when I click on the link on my profile page. The WME page shows up, but the two error messages that are supposed to pop up, don't, only one does... would that be a problem?

I would save the file somewhere on the disk and open it from there, not open it directly from the site...
What is the error message that shows? For example if you by any chance have a video at the same location the profile expects and with the same name the error wouldn't show.

I have it saved on "My Computer", and I open it up from there... but I'm still not sure if things will work properly if those two error messages don't show up.

Now, I'm not sure if the error messages really matter. When the profile shows up, I have to click "file" under "source from" and type in "DV Source" under "name". Then, under "output" I have to uncheck "pull from encoder" (in the middle), and click on "encode to file" (bottom). Before, all of this would show up automatically... is there anything else that I might have to do manually before I click on "start encoding"? And would the encoded file be the same even if I had to select all the settings myself?

Oh. That's because you're trying to open the ZIP compressed file that actually contains the .wme profile. You need to unzip it before.

If you want to do it manually you also have to change all settings on the "Compression" tab to the correct size, framerate and bitrate.

How do I unzip it and keep it that way?

I don't know what version of Windows you're using, but normally when you open a ZIP file it should open just like a folder. Then drag the file out of it. Or, use a tool like winzip.
About half of the files you'll download on the web are zipped, so it's pretty surprising you never saw that before!

I have Windows XP. I don't know what you mean by it opening just like a folder, because when I double click on it the wme opens and that's it.

I'll download Zip Genius again, and try to figure out how that works. I'm not a person who knows too much about computers and the internet, so this all unknown to me.

That must be because you told windows to open the file with WME, and now it does it everytime even if WME is actually not the right program for it. Reinstalling a Zip program should solve that. Just be sure to answer yes if the program asks about associating file types.

I downloaded Zip Genius, and it opens up without a problem... but I'm still only greeted with one error message. It also asks me if I want to run or save this file.

Well finally, it works. I saved the file that you sent me (but not on the disk because I'm not really sure where that is) and followed those directions.
One more thing, do I need the wme profile editor and what do I do with the other session on "my computer"?

Hmm... I don't understand what you're talking about. The FL350_799_NTSC.wme?
