Whos uses which, and which is better. Consider traffic count, server quality, and everything else.
I have to go with VATSIM, because IVAO just seems like a ghosttown all the time, nobody's ever on!!!! plane.gif 5sonar.gif Banane01.gif director.gif icon_muscu.gif cheers.gif

I love VATSIM! I've never tried IVAO though.
Dozens of airports have great traffic during evenings (at least where I mostly fly; Europe, USA)
Takes a while to learn what to say / how to listen to ATC but it's definitely worth the time.
If many FL350ers use VATSIM we should organize an online meet plane.gif

Mic fright? I used to get that quite bad even online.
Just remember the key is understanding- make sure you and the controller understand each other. Tell the controller who you are, what you are, where you are and what you want to do, and he/she will try and manage you safely and efficiently. All you have to do is try and comply, if you feel its 'safe' to do so.

That is all that you have to do, nothing to it. I used to get that, so I started to just go to a major airport and just sit and listen in on the lingo, especially like clearance delivery. I did that at KATL.

Yea, listening in is a good idea, I've also done that.
Make sure to remark you are a "newbie" in your flight plan comments, ATC is very understanding (99% of them icon_rolleyes.gif ).

Did anyone participate in the EDDF Frankfurt Real-Ops event yesterday? That was insane! plane.gif

I do have one question. Is it hard becoming a controller? I've been thinking about it at my home airport LSZH (Zurich) but I dont know if it's worth the trouble. plane.gif

I'm an ATC at FZAA, Kinshasa Congo, and I love it! It is definitely worth the training. If you have a good instructor like I have, then it quickly 'flys' by. Our website is vatdrc.com

Im not entirely sure about Europe. In the US, it's not hard...it's just time consuming, and i assume it would be over there as well. I have a European firned who is ATC and he said he got promoted in close to no time, but that's just for local control. (TWR, GND, DEL). And he does UK Airspace, not Swiss. If you're looking at becoming LSAS_CTR (Swiss Radar) than you're looking at at least 4 maybe 5 months. But it's a great experience, i love love love it. I definetly think you should go for it. No doubt you'll start off as Ground, but you could propably be Director/Arrival within the next 2 months. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the great input! That really cleared things up for me.
I'd be aiming for LSZH_TWR / LSZH_APP not neccessarily LSAS_CTR icon_biggrin.gif
Wow I never thought it was a matter of months!!
Glad to hear that its a lot of fun though icon_biggrin.gif plane.gif

In Europe you have to pass tests (i'm guessing its the same everywhere). The date of a controller's test gets posted on some forums so that theres sure to be some traffic to keep one busy.

I fly in IVAO and I can say there's almost always much more traffic and atc than in VATSIM. At evenings there is around 900-1000 atcs and pilots online. If you view traffic by Servinfo, I recommend to change to Dolomynum on IvAe, 'cause Servinfo do not show anymore IVAO traffic.

I recommend you to test IVAO, visit in www.ivao.aero
