Hello,

Well I plan to attend the Ohio State University and join their flight branch. Well i'm not sure but I was wondering whether there was anybody here that could tell me that have been to a college flight school. Is it a full education or is it just a selective. What degrees could i achieve and so on... Any Information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yours truly,

David

You do get a full education. Major in something to do with aviation but make sure you have something to fall back on.
Good Luck,
Mike

Exactly what ^^^ said... Even tho I already got my PPL and im working on my instrument/commercial license then to CFI/CFII right after...

Even after all that I'm looking at going to 2 schools right now....either Embry Riddle (in florida) or Purdue University (in Indiana).... You will get a FULL education along with all your licenses from PPL to Commercial. I know that Purdue University even throws in the ME license (Multi-engine) with there Seminole's... However if you want your CFI or CFII licenses (which id recommend...) then you have to go somewhere else other than your college to get those...UNLESS the school goes thru an already established flight school (besides there own obviously)

"Even though I majored in Aeronautical Science, I'd highly recommend that you consider minoring in a non aviation-related degree as a back up. So far, I've flown with pilots with majors in business, aviation, physics, mathematics, liberal arts and a variety of other degrees. In fact, the pilot who I attended MD-88 training with as a forestry major." -DougTaylor, Delta Airlines pilot.

Just remember, that Aero degree is pretty much useless if you ever get furloughed and need a job in the interim. If you really, really want it then go for it but don't pay too much money for it. Any degree makes you more marketable for a job but high debt from one will burden you for years. I work with one too many ERAU grads who would not have shelled out that $100K if they had to do it over again. If you can't get scholarships, consider transferring after going to a 2 year college. Then when you are making <$20K/yr as a pilot you will be thankful for every penny you don't owe.

Western Michigan in Kalamazoo has a good school at AZO, too. I suppose the good thing is that the airlines are wondering where the next crop of pilots is coming from since the boomers are approaching retirement age. Appears to be more demand than supply for the meantime

Well Aviation has been my life always. I would avoid my household family problems by going sit behind the runway at TGU. It would take me into a new world that would avoid the real world that i lived in. Ever since I was a young child. So i felt that the only way I could live my life was up there in the air. I have sacrificed and studied my whole life to get good grades to be able to achieve my dream goal to be an airline pilot. I have done it all by myself, i have been on my own since i was 16 working and stuff, and now I happen to be 18 and can now go off to college to become a pilot! So I have worked for this and I need to know what I should do, what colleges or flight schools you all recommend. I plan to major in aeronautical Engineering but I am destined to be a pilot so this site has helped me out along with all its members to get closer to my dream! any information would be appreciated!

Thank You,

David

Heres a link I think you will find usefully for finding the school right for you. Most if not all the recognized aviation schools in the US are listed in their State category's. You can also request for more information by mail if you wish for most of the colleges. http://www.bestaviation.net/college/

Good luck icon_thumright.gif

So, why is it you plan to major an Aero Engineering when you are 'destined' to become a pilot?

Well, I myself go to Western Michigan University, and that makes me just want to tell you to forget OSU and their old aircraft, and come to Kalamazoo and fly our beautiful brand spanking new all Cirrus training fleet. Except multi, complex, and aerobatic of course, as Cirrus doesnt make those types of planes. Anyways, although I am majoring in "Aviation Flight Science" which consists of a lot of classes about aircraft systems and crew resource management and such, my minors are in both Political Science and Sociology, the industry we are going into can easily become very bad, or very good....so its wise to have a good fall back plan.

Best of luck to you!

Let me ask you this. Do you think you want a brand new pilot flying a $455,000 Cirrus for the first time? I think not. Are you sure your not stretching the truth a little too far? A flight school with all Cirrus's. Yeah, uh huh right. Give me the like to the flight school and then I will believe it.

You should really try google. And for your information, the regular SR-20's are only about $350,000 from what we hear. But here is some detail on our fleet if you would like;

Cirrus SR-20 (28)
Cirrus SR-22 (2)
Piper PA-18 Sea (1)
Piper PA-28 (2)
Piper PA-34 (6)
Piper PA-44 (4)
Extra 300 (2)
Cessna 150 (2)

Okay...that makes a bit more sense. I was thinking about the SR22s I completely forgot about the 20s. My mistake. Your flying school must have some big bucks! Do you have any pictures of planes on the ramp by chance?

Hey, I've also been looking for flight schools lately. This program seems interesting. I looked on their website and it looks good, but I'm a little skeptical. I couldn't find anything about the cost of the program and it seems too easy and quick and good to be true. Is there a catch or some gimmick that I'm not seeing? Thanks.

Hey Stephen, Give them a call and ask for dave. Tell him that you want more info about the Career Pilot program. They have all basically new 172Rs that range from 0-7 years and they have 2 Cutlass' that are from the 70s (my favorite planes) They also have a Piper Seminole for the MEL training. Give them a call, you wont regret it i promise. The learning environment is the most laid back i have ever seen. Let me know if you want some more info, ill be happy to help you out.

Hey thanks Cory. I've been looking mostly at four year universities like Letourneau University in Texas and ERAU, and they look great but they are very expensive, but at the same time I wonder why it takes those schools four years to turn out pilots and this school only one and at a significantly cheaper cost.
