Hello chaps...

I stumbled on this site by accident today, had a read and found it very interesting.

I'm not a pilot, I've always had a fascination of aircraft, but by the time I realised that my dream would be to be a commercial pilot, I'd left it too late..... .

......May try for a PPL though.

At present I just use FS2002 and mainly fly around in the 737 or the Jetranger.

I used to do a lot of work at Gatwick and Heathrow airports ( more time spent watching the planes........ :lol: ).

Anyway, I may be asking you guys questions all the time - hope you can put up with me....... :huh:

Hey welcome. Just because your not a pilot it doesn't meen we'll all leave you out. I'm not a big gun either. I training for commercial (only joking) . So you like flightsimulator. Still with FS2002 you should upgrade to 2004, it is alot better. What jobs did you do at heathrow???

I'm an engineer by trade. Air conditioning and refrigeration ( commercial ).

I was the project manager on some of the seafood bars that were built airside in both airports. Worked there on and off for about 6 years ( ..had the green pass ).

I also carried out many installations for Alpha flight services who do the aircraft food....... ;)

I'll think of some questions for you very soon....... :lol:

Prior to take off and after landing, how do you operate the nose wheel steering?

First you deactivate the rudder then you go ahead and use the pedals. Hope that answers your question. ;)

If you're using only a joystick, then just turn left or right. You might have to assign joystick controls from within FS2002.

Gary when you read this you should really upgrade to flight simulator 2004 and get some add-ons or simply get add-ons for flight simulator 2002. ;)

Thanks for the answers, just to let you know that the question was aimed at a real aircraft and not FS.......

I've got 2004, but my computer does not like it, runs like a slug despite 512 ram, 64m graphics and 2.3g processor?.

My joystick is crap as well. My MS force feedback one packed in - can't get another and the wingman I've got is rubbish. I'm going to the pilot shop at Fairoaks airport soon to look at some they've got. I discovered the shop when I used to be over there repairing the air conditioning on the Bell helicopters for Alan Mann the main UK dealers.

Probably me being dense but,

If you are experiencing crosswinds during take off or landing, would you not need to use the rudder via the foot pedals? - if so, how do you operate the nose wheel steering to keep the aircraft on the center of the runway?

BTW, am I living up to my signature so far...... ;) ...... :lol:

the pedals of some authority of wheel control just not a lot like in the itty bitty cessnas...

Depending on the Model of Aircraft! Its called a tiller! In my aircraft the tiller controls 70 degrees either direction of the nose wheel. I don;t know about disconnecting the rudder? The rudder pedals on the Hawker have nothing to do with steering on the ground. When the Non Flying Pilot calls "80 knots" there is enough airflow over the rudder to steer for the rest of the takeoff!

Some aircraft though , like the CRJ, the rudder pedals turn the nose whell up to 7 degress either side and the tiller control 70 degrees! So with full tiller and pedal in the desired direction, you can get 77 degrees!
