I just heard that a LAN (chile) flight to argentina experienced heavy turbulence and dropped several meters! it was reported that some passengers not wearing a seatbelt hit [their] heads on the ceiling! 30 people are being treated for injuries...the aircraft was [an] a320

Yes, i have experienced that too.
But i don't know th correct word for it.
It is a bad case that the passengers had no belts on.
Or was it all a fault of the pilot, who turned out the seatbelt switch? icon_rolleyes.gif

Even when the seatbelt sign is off, pax are advised that it is recommended they keep it on while seated just in case of unexpected events like this.

But if the pilot switches on the seatbelt switch, people are self-opinionated.

i went through CAT (Clear Air Turbulence) maybe that was what it was??? but our plane rose a few meters and side slipped and dropped a few more i was walking to the bathroom and was thrown against the cieling and into the seat row. it was scary and it was during mealtime so imagine the mess.

I was Fly a Continental 752 and we went throught some severe storms out in the midwest and we rose then dropped rose then dropped 3 times and we shook a lot to quite a few spilt drinks but the pilot pulled out of it and we were fine
