 Plane crashes into oil depot? |

A series of blasts are going on just outside north london...witnesses are saying that they saw a plane crash into the depot. Here's the story from the BBC.

Police say there are casualties. They are at the scene, said a spokesman.
The first blast happened at 0603 GMT, at the Buncefield oil depot, close to the junction 8 of the M1 motorway 10 miles from Luton Airport.
Residents up to 30 miles from the scene reported hearing a "loud boom". One eye witness told BBC News: "There are lots of houses damaged."
Witnesses said another two explosions followed the first at 0626 GMT and 0627 GMT.
The M1 near the scene has been closed in both directions.
'House shook'
Eye witness Sam Matton, who lives half-a-mile from the depot told BBC News: "The sky is sort of orange. The flames have got to be 60ft up in the air.
"I was in bed, I was actually having a bad dream and I thought the world had ended.
"The loft hatch in my house has actually fallen out, my neighbour's window has actually broken from the impact.
"There was a first major explosion and about three explosions after that.
Dave Franklin told BBC News: "We woke up at 0555 GMT. There was a massive loud bang which broke windows above us and to the right. The whole sky just turned orange and black.
"Several other neighbours said they did see a plane go into the depot."
Duncan Milligan, of Hemel Hempstead, said he was awoken by the explosion as his house "shook".
"There was a loud boom and the house shook violently.
"I am about three miles from where the explosion took place but I can see flames high in the sky and smoke billowing everywhere.
"There is clearly a building on fire near the motorway and police and emergency services are everywhere."

No one has been killed... yet. Of 36 people injured 4 are serious, as said above all theories of a plane crash have been disprove and the police are treating this as an accident, so terrorism is also out of the picture.
Air traffic into EGGW and EGLL is being disrupted and latest reports are showing an image from space where most of the southeast of england is under think black cover

The smoke is currently over me, and I'm 45 miles away from the source. I can't smell it, but its getting thicker, which is worrying me.

Slightly ironic that after having sucessfully cut down fuel emissions following congestion charges, this big manky cloud of hydro carbons is dumping years worth of car exhausts in only a couple of days on the city of London. I got my stats from Sky news which means i completely and utterly made this up. :lol:
Q. What does the fuel dump at Hemel and Paul Gasgoine have in common?
A. They'll both blazing for a week :lol:

Anyways, how dumb can these witnesses get??...They're not really witnesses if they don't really know what happened...How can they imagine a plane crashed into the depot???...This is all a big mess at the moment...We now know it's definitely not a plane because ATC would've caught that on their radars...My guess would be that some plonker flicked his cigarette n BOOM!!!!

It was at 6 am, most would have been half asleep and it would've been kind of dark so they might've thought they saw something that wasn't really there.. Or it could have been sky news trying to spice up a story.....They are notorious for it !!!!!!!!!!

A retrofitted 747 jetliner capable of blanketing Arizona´s wildfires with unprecedented loads of water has yet to receive a crucial FAA safety certification and may not be ready to fly this summer.
While administrators at Evergreen International Aviation in Marana are banking on final tests in June to find the so-called Supertanker airworthy, the delay in additional resources couldn´t come at a worse time for the state, where some predict a devastating fire season in the high country and areas close to the Valley.
In addition, federal authorities acknowledge the number of large air tankers dedicated to wildland firefighting is dwindling, mostly due to safety concerns about the aging fleets.
There likely will be eight or nine heavy-duty air tankers available for this year´s fire season, down from the 33 that served the nation two years ago. Large tankers can douse a wildfire´s hottest spots, covering the flames and hitting targets beyond the capabilities of single-engine tankers.
I don't think it's ready just yet, anyway wouldn't it be woefully inaccurate?

I didn't actually hear about this incident until 4pm on the day it had happened! And no a plane did not crash into the depot, nor was it terrorists (we think) and the witnesses could have been seeing things becuase as Dark said, it was 6am. It was apparently a technical and/or other fault which triggered the explosion. The cloud covered an area over 50 miles in diameter and spreading. I learnt something new from this as well.
Did anyone in the UK ever watch that Bonfire night programme with Richard Hammond exploding a building? Well if you did this comes from there. They had to wait for a clear day to explode the building, because the explosion would have been so powerful it would have blasted sideways out to around 20 miles, shattering nearby windows and damaging structures. Lets just say they waited for a clear day and nothing happened. This is because of the cloud. Cloud presses down on the air underneath, trapping the air, so it cannot escape upwards. Therefore the explosion would have been compressed under the cloud layer and gone sideways damaging nearby houses. They waited for a clear day and the explosion went straight up.
Anyway onto where I'm going. Because it was a cloudy day down in London, the blast was much worse than it should have been. The clouds compressed the air underneath and the blast went sideways, hence the blowing out of windows/window frames, shaking of houses etc. If it had have happened on a clear day, it would have gone up and out, causing considerably less damage. hehe the wonders of the world.
Anyway, we haven't had anything up here because we're up north and it's spreading South-west way. I saw the satellite and it was pretty awesome to see a whole chunk of the UK under thick black smoke. I think the fires are just about under control now and only a few remain, if that. I think in the next few weeks we are going to get the 'fall out' from the blast, with bits of ash and things falling down, and most of it will become acid rain.
It still amazes me that nobody actually got hurt during this explosion, as I think the shift had just changed so most people had been going home at the time. Lucky. :lol:
