does anyonne know about the transatlantic flights from Bangor, Maine. i sometimes check random flight trackers and the most common transatlantic flights from Bangor Intl', Bangor, Maine are World Airways MD11's to and from Shannon and Frankfurt and American Trans Air 753's to and from Shannon. let me know w/anything.

Interesting to see some interest in Maine! I'm from Waterville, about an hour south of Bangor, and Hawker is also from the area.

Anyways, Bangor is a regional-style airport only, servicing the Northeast and East coast, as already described in this post earlier. Those flights you see online are probaby just tracking over Bangor, as a lot of international flights coming from across the pond fly just about right over Bangor, due to both the great circle route, and the fact that Bangor is the first alternate destination in the US, as it is a nice long runway. FYI, it is also one of the backups for the space shuttle landing!

thanks flyaway for all of your help but the routing is mostly EDDF-KBGR or EINN-KBGR or vice versa. yes many flights go right over BGR on the atlantic track, but i forgot to mentoin i also heard on airliners.net something about troop movements, anyone know about that?

Yes, there is an air national guard station in Bangor and I have also heard of Troop deployment overseas via aircraft originating outa BGR! There is no scheduled trans atlantic flying outa BGR, just contract stuff with the goverment and charters!

Even with the advent of so many newer gereration long-haulers, corporate and commercial, KBGR will need a sizable fuel farm for many more years. Sort of like Anchorage, but on a much smaller scale.

The World MD-11's that stop in Bangor are military charter troop movements. I know because I usually am on those MD-11's in Bangor :ph34r:

I am actually a flight attendant for ATA (american Trans Air).. those flights out of bangor are amc (air mobility command).. that's all i'm allowed to say.. I actually just worked one in from shannon. the reason they might pop up in random search engines is, family members of soldiers or military personnel are allowed to catch those flights... tha'ts why you might see them in a random flight search engine...

Also Bangor is where the troops clear customs.. alot of the flights are actually just making tech stops in Bangor so tha the boys can clear customs.. they usually go on to bases all over the country.. hope that answered the questions..

Port of Call aka Port of Entry. It's any port, including airports, where you can clear customs.

It's when you have to stand in a long line after a long flight waiting to get interrogated by government officials who couldn't get a real job. They also stamp your passport if they feel you are worthy to enter their country.
